The later ones..........1956, did an adaption for cooling the leg yes like 102, the early ones (Brass Tube) like this just had a fitting out of the head that was monitored by cranking your head around and behind just to make sure that water "Was There".
When flat out it is a chore as the stream is very fine etc.
When they did exhaust cooling (Very later On) it was as 102 Seagull and the bottom seal gland did actually suffer from salt as it is Al. The top Seal housing is very robust Bronze. The later ones did not have brass tube, it was Nickel Plated steel. No care and attention and it all went "That Way"
The early ones kinda just "Made Do" and put up with whatever so to speak. Always fixable.
