6hp longshaft for sale

I have a 6hp longshaft Seagull for sale. I bought this new approximately 20 years ago as an auxiliary for a motor boat I owned for about 6 years but fortunately never needed. I used to run it occasionally during this time in fresh water and would guess total running time to be about 2 hours. I always ran it from a remote fuel tank and remember there was a problem for some reason that it would not run using the built in tank.
It has been stored for the last 14 years in my garage and pulled over regularly on the starter but not run in that time.
Need to sell now as moving house; asking £180

Perhaps it would help if you told us the serial letters and numbers. They're on the crankcase just above where the thinner of the two vertical legs meets it.

That'll tell us which model it is. The reference to horsepower isn't one that many would recognise. A photo would help, too. That way we'll be able to conclusively identify exactly what it is, and its condition. Perhaps it's a Kingfisher?

Yes it does look like that
Serial number is KSR900. I have photos but don't seem to be able to upload them?

Picked it up this morning , thanks Dave .

Fantastic condition, like new, best bit it is a short shaft.

Dave also kindly gave me a 5 gallon fuel can which hooks up to the engine, so sorted for Thames run one tankful will take me 90 miles.

Now I need to decide, do I strip it and inspect the crank, or do I just run it.

It is a shame to take apart such a mint engine, will the needles be rusty?

How many of these engines did they make ? the engine number of this one is KSR 800.

Not that many. It was hundreds per year rather than thousands.

Glad you're pleased with it (and the fact it's a short shaft after all -my memory is apparently letting me down) It will be good to see it being used after so long in my garage; hopefully you will post some photos of your journey.

Yes I will make sure to post some pictures of the Thames trip, this is a perfect engine and tank for the job.

Fuel efficient and quiet, very little use.

I have been advised to strip before I run it, as any rust on the needles will cause failure of the big end.

Charles L did say "have a look at the conrod to see if is still shiny, as this is a good indication of the internals ". Good advice.

Nice oily internals and shiny conrod (polished steel so rust easily).

I would say that this engine has been very well looked after, so is good to go. :D

Do I get the spanners out tomorrow. :?:

the bore is clean isnt it?
but how stupid of seagull to make roller cranks that break anyway!
when the old cranks last just about forever...:)

They only destroy themselves when their owners fail to give them the attention they deserve, usually through lack of knowledge & understanding.

Seagull didn't have much choice if they wished to continue to sell outboards, in 1992 these things were over £800 & you could buy a lot of Japanese outboard for that much money.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
