Whats for sale

Post by Keith.P »

Just putting this thread up, to help out people looking for anything interesting.
Plus, so I don't upset anyone in their own in depth thread/posts.

First, Jeremy another LS 231510233957, Not that good, transom is poop, gearbox bung may not be right.

Second, anyone need a early 102 tank & cap, 251886570957 motors a basket case, so could be cheap.

Thanks Keith.
It is LS22367.

It looks a good average LS. It has survived quite well for a 60 year old piece of equipment.
I suspect the transom bracket has been extended to cater for a thick transom. These early brackets have quite a small opening, which is often a problem when mounting onto a GRP dinghy. BS, nor anybody else, could have foreseen the near complete disappearance of the wooden dinghy.

A seagull on that site is £40 for a non runner, to £250 for a runner, I have seen the same motors listed week in week out, so if people are paying that kind of money for motors, they would have gone.
The ability to list a motor for free on that site week in week out doesn't help, but the price will settle in the end, don't forget that people not in the know use that site as a price guide.

Go and have a look on the for sale section, if you think I'm putting the prices up, you really think that I'm the only one that looks on ebay.

If you search for Seagull on ebay (boat parts and accessories)

Then scroll down the page, on the left is a box you can tick "Completed listings".

This will show what things are actually selling for, the prices in green show what the final price was.

It is worth looking at this to see what real prices are.

The £250-£125 forty plus motors don't sell the £40-£60 ones do.

Worth looking at.

P.S. It also lets you see things that have been removed

£450 plus £250 postage, now that is a little odd

I loved that "completed listing" button, food for thought!

Also ebay tax postage cost. To avoid selling an engine say for £1 plus £59 for p&p. But certainly it's not a fair way to stop tax evaders.

Yes it's true. But everything has an explanation. Nowadays the middle and the low class pay taxes and if some black money is acquired, it covers the increased taxes.

That's info not published on the media.

Early 80s. The socialists came into power. They were spreading the idea that everyone was equal to each other. Sounds right, aye?

Public sector. The director was equal with the personnel. The personnel couldn't be fired and also the salary was steady regardless if they were doing the job or not.
Voters were essential, they employed many useless people to maintain their position.

They destroy the education.

Canceling the control and hiring corrupted guys (voters) in positions of power (tax inspectors etc) they spread corruption.
The tax inspector doesn't seek for faults or to be fair. He seeks for faults in order to get money for his pocket and if not you end up with an enormous fine.

At the same time borrowed money (from the government) was spread to the people in form of salary increment, help to the farmers etc but with no control about the way those money would be spent (investments or a luxury life).

Since there in no control and destroyed education it is matter of every single person to decide whether he would like to be fair and honest or not. With lack of education it ends up to the family and the way it bread the children, but it is obvious that a push to corruption is applied.

Industry. Enormous taxes are applied. With the increase of the salary (government law) more pressure is applied on industries. Another hit is received from bureaucracy.
Car industries couldn't get certifications to start the production of cars. That sounds to me an under the table agreement between the Greek government and other countries with heavy industry in order Greece to be a buyer and not a producer and this is only one example of many many more.
Another hit to the industries is applied by syndicalism. Strikes etc. So we end up with almost no industry.

Borrowed money are spread to all directions.

Taxes that goes to the state are consumed by the government to feed their voters or in the leading party pockets.

So now it's time to return the borrowed money. The pressure is applied to the middle and the low class. The rich are controlling the government so they avoid taxes.

Production would fetch money but industry is gone. So you have have an economy (system) with little production, a lot of consumption plus a debt. You ask the production to cover the consumption and the debt. What should be done to make that happen? Tax of course!

The debt from the beginning of austerity is increased, to my estimation we will offer our natural resources as an exchange and that was the initial aim.
All these oddities (black money etc) was the mean that lead to this situation and the beginning was back then in the 80s.

H-A,
I hadn't realized about the 'completed' box. Very interesting indeed to see the final price.
I guess that when it is a Buy It Now or Best Offer and it has a line through the green price, then presumably an unknown offer was accepted. Is this correct?

You missed the £150 marston then.

Jeremy, 171734768721, too much for what it is I think, doesn't look to bad until you look close, like, replacing the throttle cable and lever, HT lead, tiller and a complete transom bracket, so not as good as you first think.

Thanks Keith,

I hadn't seen that one. Thanks for pointing it out. Nice to see another FVP around.

I don't really want to comment in detail on whether or not engines are good value or not, or indeed what I think is correct or not.

If any potential buyer on this forum wants to contact me then please send me a pm.

The seller, Solent-Seagulls has advertised quite a lot recently. I wonder whether the seller is connected with discountboatbits?
