SD Bayonet cap mod.

Found this cap in my collection and thought it was a clever repair. Cap stripped and a nut braised on the top. Wing nut braised onto a threaded stud. Stud ground on two sides to leave air gap. When screwed down it closes. Chain and lady legs on stud base.

For beginners to the wonderful World of Seagulls an SD is the world war2 model from 1942 to 1946. They had a steel tank with a bayonet cap whereas gulls shortly went to a screwed cap.

I like innovative old repairs! Left click to enlarge. Last pic original.

Yes, I have a few bits left over, and one complete cap too. The cost was actually in buying the new caps. What do you need? The easiest to make were the dummy valves that don’t actually function, but look just like the original. To allow the cap to breathe I drilled a small hole in the diaphragm which is hidden.
