Villiiers coil test

Hi from an old member returning,
You've probably been asked this many times before so apologies, but I have several old coils here and all have different resistance readings.
The only thing they have in common is no spark!
Any thoughts please?
Thanks

Think the Villiers 5F is an early 1950's motorcycle engine of about 98cc and not much horsepower!!! Villiers had their factory in Wolves and there are still people there who supply new old stock parts for the motors. Suppose someone could have found a means of fixing one to a marine gearbox, would l...

Hi Stephen, all of my 102's have a stub for the short length of rubber hose to attach to, I have yet to see one with a hole in the housing. Possibly the stub has broken/corroded away on yours and a previous owner came up an "alternative". It should be possible to machine a new stub and hav...

Simon is on the right track, your motor only runs on choke because it isn't getting enough fuel. Either the needle isn't adjusted properly (adjusting screw level with the slide top is a good starting point) or the jet is blocked or restricted.

Another bitsa!

Think the carb, tank and gear box may go together. The rest of it's all over the place!

Start with the basics, incorrect points gap will cause this problem as will a blocked jet in the carb.

The brass tank would be a big step in the right direction. If you have a later model with a steel tank it's only a matter of time before the problems start... Just don't try to source one on ebay, if you hadn't noticed yet there are some real bandits out there. Post a wanted ad on this site or email...

They don't cost £15 from our host John, just got a brand new stainless one from him for much less than that. Drop him a line...
I've also got a couple of brass coloured ones, don't know if they are made of brass but they work fine and being soft it makes it easier to straighten out any kinks

Would that be the River Conwy as we local peasants call it ?
Seriously, you won't have trouble with leaves around here but the plentiful supply of floating seaweed will stop your motor in it's tracks (I know from experience). The only thing to do is clear the weed off the leg and start again....

Hi Andrew, the Seagull owners handbook suggests the 40 plus models for sailing dinghies and as stand by power for high speed runabouts up to 15 feet. It then goes on to say that the Century models are suitable for heavy workboats and day sailers up to 17 feet so a 40 plus should do the job unless yo...
