the piston is in correctly. adjusted the timing as per the manual. took the head off and clamped it on the bench sprayed starter fluid directly into the intake and nothing.so I believe it eliminated the fuel system completely. will look tomorrow and find the model number again. thanks for the ...

I was given an old seagull. the piston was frozen. no the plate is there. in fact i bought a new spark plug last night and get a nice purple spark out of the plug. tonight i checked the points gap. they were pretty far apart. i regapped them .019 goes .021 doesn't. i couldn't find at what point the points close. it appears that they ...

thanks for the reply. i removed the spark plug and the cutout is at the top and the slop is at the bottom.i removed the carb and checked it over. all the openings are clear. think the next option is a new spark plug. the ht plug if i remove the 2 nuts does it just pull off the base plate ...

checked the gap on the spark plug was way out set it a 20. something is strange. when i open the throttle all the way there is pressure coming out of the carb opening now that shouldn't be.. this thing only goes together one way i believe. now i'm really confused

thanks for the reply. i removed the spark plug put some gas in it and tried again would start using a drill. sprayed some starter fluid into the carb and didn't get a sputter out of it. i must be missing something very simple. the throttle is all they way towards the center of the motor. i am ...

thanks for your reply what is the ht pickup ? the locking screw is at 6 oclock and the spark plug wire is at 8 oclock..

hi all

went out and bought a 11/32 drill bit and a few lock washers. removed the base plate and drilled into it until it just started into the brass. inserted 2 washers into the hole and tightened it up. the base plate is solid now and the magnets are running free

thanks for your response.

it puzzles me that something stationary can wear out. i am guessing that the hole for the locking screw is in the crank shaft bushing. i wonder if it has possibly moved. i would have to take the motor apart to have a look. another thought is if i shim the base ...

the fly wheel is ok its pretty solid. its the magneto base plate that's the problem
i took a bold step and hit the locking screw with an impact. eventually the screw broke loose. looked inside the hole and can see where the screw goes.if i hold the base plate up with ...

magento plate wobbles

hi all
i have a problem with the magento plate. it wobbles and hits the magnets on the fly wheel. the timing screw is frozen. i have tried penetrating oil and heating it up but it wont move. any other suggestions before it go after it with the impact ?

how do i correct the wobble ? i had thought ...

hi all
am putting the engine back together. got to thinking. what lubricates the crank shaft or does it run dry ? is there any lubricant i should be using while assembling the connecting rod to the crank shaft
