Re: Bermuda 2022 Round the Island Seagull Race

Haven't been able to get a whole lot of photos taken by others, and I did miss quite a few boats as my camera was not particularly pleased to be out in the rain! But there are some good photos and videos that can be seen on the Bermuda Seagull Racing facebook page at facebook.com/bermudaseagull (whi...

Re: Bermuda 2022 Round the Island Seagull Race

The weather was certainly less than cooperative this year – we had some intense rain squalls moving across the island throughout the day, and south shore proved to be quite a challenge for everyone with rather unpleasant chop making it a wet and bumpy passage. Even the conditions on north shore dete...

Re: The History of Seagull Racing in Bermuda

Do I know you Paskoya? You do indeed, we spoke over the weekend, and I'm not the one with the great big beard  Let's hope we can get a couple of Limeys over there next June to show you Onion eaters how to do it! Rene is up for it & I might have one more go before I get too old. We will be ...

It would be great to have you in the race next year! Bring a motor along, and I'm sure we can set you up with a suitable boat.

Charles uk wrote: Wed Dec 30, 2020 1:21 pm Just a quick question, how do you remove the crank from your hybrid?
Gentle heating with an electric hot air gun seems to do the trick, the cases then separate without too much force, and the crank can be pulled out of the bearings by hand. I've not had to use a crank puller/extractor.

Re: 5R modification

Hi Stelios, Another potential to resurrect a 5R with a dead crankshaft is to fit it with a standard Kingfisher/Osprey crank and 35mm OD - 5/8" ID roller bearings. My current race motor is a Kingfisher/5R hybrid - I'm using a 5R crankcase, 35mm - 5/8" bearings and a remanufactured roller be...

Re: Building a “racer”

I’m debating wether or not I need to install a expansion exhaust. If this is your first effort at putting a racing Seagull together, an expansion chamber/tuned exhaust will probably serve as an unnecessary distraction - there is a lot of extra performance to be had from a Century that has been care...

Re: QB Kingfisher & Osprey

I've been having a closer look at the carburetors; an Amal 416-1 from the Osprey, and an Amal 420-4 from the Kingfisher, with 95 and 115 jet sizes respectively. Given that the 420 came from a motor with a fuel pump, can it be gravity fed only, or is a pump necessary? IMG_20151126_201551.jpg Are thes...

Re: QB Kingfisher & Osprey

A flex-hone it is then! I'll keep my eyes peeled for a reasonably priced one. I'm now trying to get a look at the crankshaft to see what condition it and the bearings are in, which necessitates removing the flywheel. For the non-roller QBs, are you supposed to use the hammer blow method for flywheel...

Re: QB Kingfisher & Osprey

I've noticed that the Osprey's bore is a bit scored - especially above the exhaust port. The camera flash makes them look reasonably severe, but they are only detectable by touch directly above the port. IMG_20151122_195826.jpg IMG_20151122_195529.jpg Would this be a honing job? I believe I am corre...

Re: QB Kingfisher & Osprey

Aha! That model looks a little better than the one I have; I would imagine the fillets between each arm give it a bit more strength. Has it been printed/tested?
