Re: Paraffin As A Fuel....Always Bugged Me

Just to add to the discussion; In the 1960s my father and I re-purposed a Villiers two stroke power unit, from an Atco motor mower, to drive a home made gocart. When pocket money was running low I would walk to the local petrol station and fill a can with paraffin from a fantastic pump that had a 1 ...

Re: engine surging

These motors rely on a good supply of oil to seal the main bearings. Using a reduced oil ratio on an older, well worn engine may allow the main bearings to leak, causing the mixture to fluctuate, hence the surging. Make sure you use marine specific 2 stroke oil. If your main bearings are not in the ...

That seems to me to be the perfect way to spend a Saturday (or any other day). Your motor looks great and I am very envious of your dinghy.
Keep up the good work!

Re: gull like

It looks to show a lot of similarities to a later 40. Maybe made under licence, rather than parts made by Gull?

Re: Mercury 3.3hp No Tell Tale Water

You say that you are running it with water 10 inches above the anti-cavitation plate, is that not a bit deep? Could back pressure from the exhaust be causing a problem with water flowing out of the block? That might also account for smoke from the tell-tale.

Do you have any pictures, at various stages of assembly / disassembly, to help us visualise the situation?

Please ignore my previous, ill considered post. You have CDI ignition - (much blushing)

Re: It won’t start! EFNR44B7

I hope I'm not stating the obvious here, but have you tried squirting a shot of fresh fuel straight into the air intake, to see if it will fire?

Re: Boat build

Excellent job there, I will have to get going on my build before the summer is over.
Sadly, I have to spend this weekend replacing the steering rack on my van. It decided to blow out all the hydraulic fluid the other morning, half way through the school run. Interesting

Re: Mine Won't Start Either....

I believe that once you have added two stroke oil to the fuel it degrades much faster than neat fuel. If that is true, then 10:1 mix must be worse than ever for rapid degradation. However (there is always a however  ) I have left 10:1 mix in both my Forty Plus motors for over 6 months and they...

Re: Boat build

...planning straights.... Hmmmmm... Don't take this personally, but I had to look that one up Nudge. I guess we are talking "planing strakes". I don't know what motor is going on that boat, but is planing likely to be possible? I am putting a Forty Plus on my 12 footer, and do not expect ...
