Re: My first Seagull

Hi Spiro! You have a great boat there! I wish I had one and I could feed it also  Villiers carb is V508 I think. Lucky strike the 102! Maybe it needs oil in the bore to rise the compression at first or some honing and new rings. In general that a problem that can be fixed or at least improved....

Re: My first Seagull

Just purchased my second, a 102 Serial Number AD44516 and for only $30 Australian. A bargain! Needs a bit or work, but you got to expect that with a 60 year old donk. Turns over nicely but seems a little low on compression. Good gearbox, prop, tank, exhaust tube, flywheel assembly etc. Seems very co...

Re: Poll to illustrate buying prices of FV's, & FVP's.

Not sure if it's been brought up already, but I wouldn't be surprised if the high cost of spare parts is acting to drive up pricing of complete outboards.

As a noobie to this game, that would be extremely beneficial to me and I'm sure many others on here.

Yes, that one gave me a giggle also.

Surely it's just a typo ie decimal place in the wrong spot.

Re: to restore or preserve

Restore, renovate or service? All are subjective terms in my view. My definitions. Restore - Bringing something back to original condition, with or without a little bit of bling. Renovate - Improving function and cosmetics, in other words, modifying something. Service - Leaving as is cosmetically an...

Re: My first Seagull

Thank you all for the information advice guys, very much appreciated. Stellios, I'm more a collector than a user. This outboard will be brought back to usable condition but will spend the rest of its life on display. With that in mind the type of paint applied to carb is not a big issue. It should h...

Re: My first Seagull

Carb sitting on block just to see how it looks. I was a little concerned it being too blingy, but am happy with it albeit not the original paint/color. http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z14/HH565L/Seagull/IMG_1733_zps71af490f.jpg That said, I don't mind a little bit of bling here and there. Flywhee...

Re: My first Seagull

Only painted the heads of 3 fastners as the plating was in bad shape. Want to preserve this thing and make it look OK without spending a bomb on it. The Motor Classica looks pretty interesting. The old exhibition building where it's being held is only 45 minutes away so i might get down there for a ...

Here you go Hugz, i hope this makes you happy. One points cover polished up and looking pretty  http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z14/HH565L/Seagull/IMG_1717_zps85ce2d98.jpg Tried the grey paint referred to in a previous and not real happy with the way it looks. Re: My first Seagull

As a matter of interest what method will you be using to dechrome the exhaust tube. My research indicates reverse electrolysis could be the sensible solution. When will you be polishing the points cover :D Not sure Huzs. If that's the way I decide to go i will be seeking advice from Oyster 49, he d...

Re: My first Seagull

Sick as a dog at the moment, but not being one to sit on my a^se all day I thought I'd do some light work on the Century LLS. The carb hadn't received any attention as yet, so I thought that's where I'd start. Stripped it down and scrubbed all the external surfaces basically to get rid of dirt, grea...
