Re: Rough idleing

Cheers, for the inputs and ideas. I'll start methodically working through these. In the meantime I've now got to do a headgasket change on my truck. Happy oily days ahead.

Rough idleing

Well now got my seagull back as a runner. Apparently it was the contact spring that had broken. However, on the journey home lying in the boot it obviously got upset (or knocked) and would only splutter for a few seconds the next day. Oh no here we go again. So tried a new plug but no success then d...

Re: Help with non-starter

Cheers again for your ongoing help and ideas.

I've checked the filter in the carb. How easy is it to clean / service the carb? or should I try a squirt of carb cleaner first. Is there a link to servicing the carb that anyone has done (preferably with pictures).

Regards

Chris

Re: Help with non-starter

Completed a bit of a stripdown and now have a spark fairly consistently (although the HT lead connection into the spark plug elbow may need a bit more work). Still won't start. Although I get it to turn over if I put some fuel in the cylinder and then put the sparkplug back in. I get fuel from the t...

Re: Help with non-starter

Hopefully almost got to the source of the problem. Have done a continuity check as suggested by Hugz and the lowest reading I get is 4600 ohms!! http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/tt242/chrismdd/Boat/DSCF15201_zpsfa30ilt5.jpg So I'm guessing the fault is within the Wipac that I will be unable to rep...

Re: Help with non-starter

Well the turbo has gone on the truck so I've been running around getting a replacement from the scrapyard. But I have got the flywheel off so before I touch any of the internals what should I be testing and how? As always all help greatly appreciated. Regards Chris This is what it looks like: http:/...

Re: Help with non-starter

Just done as you said Hugz and made sure that the HT lead is fine. Still no spark so I connected a piece of wire in place of the HT lead and still definitely no spark. So I'm guessing now the fault is within the magneto / Wipac area. I don't at this stage want to take the flywheel off in case I misa...

Re: Help with non-starter

Still working my way through this non-starter. Occassionally I was getting a spark and then sometimes no spark. I've cleaned and gapped the contacts, and also the spark plug. I reconnected the push fit elbow from the sparkplug to the HT lead as it looked a bit doubtful. Also I've been checking conti...

Re: Help with non-starter

Hi Jon, I'm down in South Somerset near South Petherton (40 min drive from Lyme Regis). Not far from your neck of the woods, we popped up there last weekend for my lads tenth birthday, up the M5 to Portway Park and Ride to spend the day @Bristol Science and Planetarium. As a recent study said Bristo...

Re: Help with non-starter

I've removed the top nut and the starter pulley. How do I now check or adjust the points? Do I need to remove the gold flywheel to get at the points, I can see them through the slot as in the pictures. Help with non-starter

Hi there first post so any help greatly appreciated. I just purchased a couple of refurbished seagulls for my fishing dinghy. One of these is a later 1984 recoil model and starts no problem. However, the second is a 1977 forty plus: GFR 182EE7 May1977 25:1 Forty plus std 4HP Wipac Mk2 I went on Tues...
