Spiro, sorry about the late reply. The motor is at Paradise Point on the Gold Coast.

Re: Owners of Australian Riptide Outboards - Call to Action

I had a closer look at the motor the other day when the shop was open. It is a Riptide Boatman. The bloke in the shop said that the outboard was in for repair. Here is photo of the serial number for future reference.

Re: Owners of Australian Riptide Outboards - Call to Action

My wife said that she saw a Seagull in the window of a local boat dealer. I checked it out today and found that it was a riptide. Not sure of the model. If anyone is still collecting serial numbers, I can go have a closer look when the dealer is open and post back the number.

Re: Seagull Parts and the Mini Lathe

Thank you Sandro. Here is a picture of the Sieg lathe and accessories that I purchased. I have since bought some additional carbide tools as well a quick change tool post. I will keep adding to my collection of accessories and tools as time goes by. The ones from China are good value if you aren't i...

Re: Seagull Parts and the Mini Lathe

The smaller springs are made from both music wire and stainless spring steel. The music wire was readily available from local hobby shops but I had to order the stainless from China. (Cheap, but delivery took 6 weeks) Because the spring wire is formed cold, there should be no further treatment neede...

Seagull Parts and the Mini Lathe

When reassembling a couple of early 102 Seagulls, I found that I was missing one of the 5/16 brass bolts (#1378) that secures the end cap. John didn’t have one and Sheridan only supplies the later cheese head design. It seemed to me that a replica bolt wouldn’t be too hard to fabricate on a lathe fr...

Re: transom clamp bolts

I recently made a couple of clamping bolts for the D. 7/16 Whitworth worked well.

Re: Working on the "D"

I like the gearbox cap bolts as well. The design is well thought out with the smaller size, but longer, head on the 5/16 bolt designed to allow room to put on a spanner despite the dome shape of the cap. The thicker than normal brass washer enhanced the convenience of the design. The bolt was not a ...

Re: Working on the "D"

I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the D now that it is back together. It is reasonably original apart from the later head. I'm still looking for a cowl with just Seagull on it and the correct throttle control but am pretty happy with how it turned out. I haven't started it yet but am confident ...

Re: Throttle Lever

Thanks Oyster 49. I'm in no hurry so if nothing crops up in the meantime, I'll contact you when all this is over. I did find an old long handled Villiers throttle on ebay. Not right but period correct.

Re: Working on the "D"

Both the fuel pipe and water outlet pipe were missing from the box of parts. These were easy enough to replicate although I did have to order the nipples from England. The 1/4 pipe was readily available from a plumping supply shop near where I live. I copied the shape of the fuel pipe from a 1946 er...
