Re: Marston OP Rebuild
I have successfully separated the power head from the driveshaft. These early Marston motors have a round drive shaft tube with keyway rather than the square drive tube. This means that they are more prone to seizing together. Thanks to advice from one of this forums resident members I took a piece ...

Re: Early 102 question
Interesting. I’m having trouble finding this on the web? Penrite list a product called ‘Steering box lube’.
Edit: it seems that Semi Fluid Grease is the new name for Steering Box Lube. Spec sheet:

Sending a PM
Hi all
I am trying to send a PM to one of our members but the message seems to just sit in the “outbox”, and not move into the “sent”box after hitting submit. Am I missing a step?

Marston OP Rebuild
Hi all
I would like to pick up from my earlier post here and rename it to something more applicable:

Re: Britannia Swordfish mix ratio
The cylinder head is not water cooled, only around the sides of the cylinder, so yes, the cylinder heads will get hot.
If you hadn't mentioned that your father had installed the recoil start, I would have thought it was an optional extra that I wasn't aware of and had been fitted at the factory ...

Re: Britannia Swordfish mix ratio
I’ve now had the motor running in a drum. Initially it only ran on one cylinder, so I replaced the old Champion 8COM spark plugs with a new set of D16’s, set the points, and it started second pull and ran smoothly. It does however give the occasional back fire, as though the ignition momentarily ...

Thank you very much. 20:1 TCW3 it will be!

Hi all
I have inherited my father’s old Britannia Swordfish that he bought brand new when he was at college. Can someone please confirm the oil mix ratio please?

Tool sizes
Hi all
I had a search through old posts here hoping to find a list of the standard / recommended size of spanner and sockets but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. As I don’t have many Whitworth tools in my box I’ll need to go shopping.
Can somebody please suggest the basic / useful sizes I ...

Thanks CharlesCharles uk wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 7:16 pm Looks like I made a mistake on the date I should have said 37, sorry.

Thank you all for the responses. Yes, the project will be approached with caution now that I know the significance of what I’ve got.

Early 102 question
Hi all.
New here, and have what I believe is a relatively early 102 (S/N OP613) which I was given by a neighbour who was sorting through an estate. My nine year old son and I are currently giving it a tidy up. I doubt that it had been run for many years prior to us receiving it, but we set about ...
