Re: Interesting motor
I think the 'coolie hat' flywheel was standard Villiers fare in the 1920's and 30's - The Atco Villiers lawnmowers of the day used the same magneto, and even came with a clip-on cover with a 'Villiers' logo enamel badge in the centre. Personally, I am of the belief that Villiers made the whole power...
Re: SD parts
Just a comment on re-plating of SD legs - I had two or three done where I requested dull zinc- if 'zinc' only is specified, the end results will be the bight zinc as is seen on modern nuts and bolts etc. I'm not sure how the dull finish was achieved - it would be a different plating solution to the ...
Re: Fv/fvp
Hi Jacob - did anyone come up with a plastic tank for you? I've got a couple - controlling factor is whether you need short or long mounting studs, which is determined by the tank being fitted to either a cast base or the stainless steel (thinner) plate and grab handle. pm me for a bounceback if int...

Re: Anzani Pilot.
My spell checker - mind of its own!!! Should have said 'compare dates and ages'! I think Charles Harrison ( the Grand Fromage of Anzani) died in the early '70's which maybe precipitated the sale of Anzani, though he must have presided over years of declining sales in the face of Japanese outboards e...

Re: Anzani Pilot.
Nobody has ever come up with dates v. serial numbers so far - be interesting to be able to copper does and ages for various models. I 'believe' Pilots and possibly Super Singles ran up to the early seventies, but really don't know. Anzani interests - at least for outboards - were take over by one Bo...

Re: Anzani Pilot.
HI Hugo - the early Pilots had two-blade props., whereas the later ones were three-bladed.The early Pilots had a aluminium tube for a leg as opposed to the later cast legs (Mk III upwards I think). Early cylinder heads were a plain shallow dome - later ones (don't know where the changeover occurred)...

Re: Brass bracket.
Hi Hugo - just following your digression - the so-called Liberty Ships we notorious for breaking up in rough seas - don't know if 'notorious' was one or two or a whole lot more. They were brought together as welded-up sections from different yards, and one was reported as having a mismatch of seven ...

Re: Corrosion Protection
I used to use a fairly stiff solution of one of these car 'wash and wax' products in my test tank, with the theory being that the stuff is pH neutral, and the water evaporates, leaving a wax film in all the recesses of the water jacket cast surface. I have no proof positive that this was effective, ...

Re: Anzani sport twin
I think few were made as they were quickly superseded by the Unitwins - don't know how good they were - if I remember correctly Anzani made a standard version and a `Sport' producing 8 and 13 HP respectively- quite how they did that I can't imagine. Must have been as noisy as hell, as the exhaust wa...

Hi Martin - I can't remember which thread my original information was on, but I imagine that I have repeated anything it contained in my entry above - my message of 2.58 pm today. Please let me know if I can offer any other useful info on this topic -- Rick.

Re: AC Authenticity
Jon - your message of January 31st is a little misleading as regards re-plating of parts: We are used to cheap prices for Seagull parts or services - for chrome plating, we enter the commercial world and their realities. Unlike the common perception of just dunking items, re-finishing of old parts i...

Re: Not Outboards At All
Good for you -be strong! I gave up thirteen years ago - we all know the health risks, but my motivation was cost as well as for the health benefits. One of the best things I ever did! Quite timely as well, as not too long afterwards smoking in pubs was banned, as well as in company premises , both i...

Re: New (to me) 40+
I can't imagine a situation where there isn't enough material to fit and locate an impeller, or if so, the shaft is pretty far gone!
If this scenario does exist, the other option would be to stick the impeller on what was the upper end of the shaft and upend the thing?
