Fuel Cap Seal
Fuel cap cork seal. I like to keep my engines as original as possible, however the cork fuel cap seal is I believe, an area that could be improved without sacrificing originality too much. Surely an ordinary nitrile seal of similar dimensions would be much more long lasting and reliable? Perhaps it ...

Re: One for Jeremy
Hi Tam, I obviously haven't been keeping a close attention to the forum for a few days. I have been away, playing with boats in a South Devon estuary with FV 5141 and FV2821. Attached is a photo of FV2821 - an excellent outboard. FV2821.jpg Anyway, back to tanks. It looks rather the large radius ova...

Re: Oh Dear! What have I done.
I think that it is an SJM. Probably from the early/mid 1960s The lack of any ident stamping would suggest to me that it has been built up from a spare crankcase by an individual or an agent.

Re: New purchase
Well done for getting an FVP.
Could you post a photo of it when you receive it. Do you know its serial number? If not please let us know when you receive it.
Thanks.

Re: Transom Bracket Types
Good idea Charles. So, as a start:- In respect of just the Early Forty Series, I have described the three different types in my Notes, which accompany the Data List of the Early Series Forty Engines. I wrote in those Notes:- There were three different types of Transom Brackets:- The early 4” (engage...

Re: Bought Another One
Hi Raya,
Is it really true that KLG plug caps were the choice of BS? What is the evidence for this? I presume that you are referring to the period around 1950 ish.
There is some evidence, certainly not conclusive, that the brown Champion plug cap was used by BS around 1947/8/9 ish.

Re: Villiers Coils
FV5141 with its M1361 coil is still going strong. Here is a photo of it doing what it was designed for - pushing a dinghy along. This was last week on the Yealm estuary in South Devon, UK. FV5141 on River Yealm 15th April 2019.jpg I know Charles L. wanted to see how this coil stood up to 24 hours us...

Re: Rare (?) Early Series Forty
LM29462, which was on Gumtree has now been sold, presumably along with the Yamaha and the LLS.
I hope the LM doesn't disappear. Is anybody on here the new owner?

Re: Rare (?) Early Series Forty
Seagull nomenclature. When I started asking what the model numbers stood for, most of the comments were based on what the outboards were being called from a marketing/useage point of view. So there was no real explanation for the models such as the LS, SJM and SJP that I was interested in. Charles P...

Re: Rare (?) Early Series Forty
John, The serial number is stated by the owner to be LM29462. Visually it looks, as far as one can tell from the photos complete and goodish. This LM is for sale on Gumtree in Kingsteignton , Devon in a package of two other outboards. The other two are an LLS and a Yamaha. According to the owner it ...

Re: Rare (?) Early Series Forty
Thanks John,
It appears that it really is an LM! The serial number that he stated is not correct, but the seller is going to let me know the correct number. I suspect the first three numbers are 294, with a couple more after that.
Thanks a lot for letting me know.

Re: Rare (?) Early Series Forty
Thanks Jacob,
I wish I had seen that. I am very keen on recording as many Early Series Forty outboards as I can, so that the information can be collated and more can be found out about this series. If you see another one, let me know! Thanks.

Re: Rare (?) Early Series Forty
Thanks John. I wasn't able to find it on e bay, but it doesn't matter, as I have got sufficient info on it.
I did bump into FVP6317, which is for sale in Oban. It was previously on e bay in December 2018.
