Re: Little Forty
Thanks everyone for helping me with this, I still have no idea why it isn't working, I suspected it was not getting fuel to the spark because I couldn't smell it when I removed the plug and thought maybe a blockage in the head, I couldn't see one, one question, what problems are caused by stuck pist...

That's not a drain hole it's the oil feed to the bottom main bearing, clean it out with a cotton wool bud & the air line, that crankcase should be clean enough eat from but oily on the inside! Thanks Charles, cotton bud is how I did it and a blast of carb. cleaner, no air hose, looking at all t...

Re: Little Forty
The head is off, the crankshaft is open and the piston is out, only a little bit of of rust, the other gasket will clean up fine, I did spot a blockage in the crankcase but I think it is just a drain, anyway its clear now, to me the piston is scored but I don't know if it is bad or not, I don't thin...

Re: Little Forty
I remembered you telling me about the different carbs Jon, I really only wanted to see if I had set up the original correctly, so comparing both I know I had. then I thought why not swap the jets, I know the newer carb works, anyway I have swapped the jet so even with all my cleaning of the original...

Re: Little Forty
I did remove the wire, I guessed it was on to stop the bolt coming out, it did a great jobheaddownarseup wrote:Just looking at your pics Steve of the collar that sits at the lower crank case. Is that a piece of locking wire i see?
Cut the wire first, heat the bolt and it should come apart.

Re: Little Forty
You have two options, remove the crank from the drive tube or remove the whole gearbox, then you can remove the exhaust either way. I would use a silicon sealant on the gaskets, just to stop the different metals touching and having electrolytic corrosion problems. I looked at taking the gear box of...

Re: Little Forty
Re getting the exhaust off, I assume you have a problem with the small retaining bolt that screws the exhaust to the block? If it's this little bolt, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v426/pocaman/DSC_0692.jpg it came out really easily I cheated  we have a really good mechanic in the village...

Re: Little Forty
Copper grease ordered, thanks well I can't get the exhaust off, the bolt is seized I tried putting a blow torch to it and still no luck, at some time the original bolt has been changed and the cheap GKN replacement is not up to the job http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v426/pocaman/20161215_113011.j...
