Re: Amal 2 jet for a 102 series motor

Have you checked with John Williams (SOS) who hosts this site for us? Also several on ebay in the UK at the moment. Thanks, Ebay does not really work for me here, the exchange rate is one issue the SAPO postal delivery service is another. One that I was gifted to me bby a forum member was sent via ...

Thread size in the Villiers center tube

I have a near serviceable Villiers carburetor, excepting that some previous owner has destroyed the thread of the lower tube that screws into the main body. There may be just enough metal left for an engineer to re turn that thread for me? Can anyone advise what the thread pitch is please. The plast...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Parcel Monkey have their own customs dept so it has already been checked. Now you have to stay home all day. Its Dawn Wing here who are handling the paperwork, I am assuming they hold the parcel in bond and when customs do the release they deliver, will it be today, so much for the three to four da...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

How close am I to having the Amal 2 jet carb that Martin sent me I wonder?

The Parcel Monkey web site now tells me that my parcel has arrived in the local delivery depot.

If customs release it I may see it soon, how soon is soon I wonder?

Re: Roys second 102 series build

I quickly drafted a Word document as a letter and told customs the truth, the goods are valued at 10.00 pounds for customs purposes but in fact were a gift from a fellow British Seagull restorer. This was the reply from Dawn Wing Couriers. My hope of them clearing and a delivery to me for this week ...

Re: Roys second 102 series build

Todays news is from Dawn Wing Couriers and not that good. Dear Roy Mc Bride, Please note that we have received your parcel from the UK. The parcel has been stopped by customs as a low value shipment. In order for us to release your parcel, kindly assist with the below documentation: • Commercial inv...

Re: Roys next build will be a Silver Century ?

The most common start point for silver century failure is the crankcase side of the exhaust port. Does the square cast iorn block have an issue design wise? Round hole in a square block comes to mind or is it just a lack of flushing out with fresh water? I doubt I will find a spare block here anyway?

Re: Roys next build will be a Silver Century ?

If my memory serves me correct l used a piece of a jug heater element as a replacement spring in the past. Only spiral l could find of the right size. I would probably just coil my own now. Thanks, I have a suitable spring here plus a Lucas wire loom brass bullet end will make a good end terminal, ...

Re: Roys next build will be a Silver Century ?

I agree with Charles about the century cylinders. I bought 2 silver century models at the same time as I aquired my 102. Both had rusted cylinders with one virtually falling apart as I attemped to disassemble it. The other had a crack through the water jacket. I think that this model seagull is par...

Re: Crankcases and Crankshafts

The crankcase stripping on my 102 engine was the first such event since I started restoring the Seagull engine. This engine had a seized top piston ring but the motor was in other respects in good condition, in some ways like new? Can someone please post a picture of the other options for Seagull cr...

Re: Roys next build will be a Silver Century ?

Remember to get as much electrical conductivity between the spring and nipple. This is an area that causes problems of lost or intermittent spark. Yes, nipple can dislodge and disappear. Thanks on the advice. My next selection is small, one looks quite good, the other needs a spring soldering on? Y...

Re: Roys next build will be a Silver Century ?

If nothing else I am clearing the shelves of Seagull parts in the direction of what may become a new build? I have a HT lead, one end was cut off so I screwed in a Champion HT plug cap, the end that fits into the Wipac 2 coil had a spring only, I removed the brass bullet from another HT lead and onc...
