Re: Protective coating
The Seagull manual recommended wiping the engine over with an oily rag after use to preserve the finish but it also stated that an alternative was to paint the complete engine (excluding the silencer) with spar varnish before first use. That may be what is on the handsome engine in the photo. I neve...

Re: Weedless or Hydrofan
Having tried the semi weedless curved blade props on both my 40 Featherweight and Silver Century Plus in direct comparisons, I have gone back to original Hydrofans. The thrust, particularly at low revs in my experience (on my boats anyway) is definitely better with the original Hydrofan and I think ...

Loss of power once warm?
One of my Silver Century Plus birds hit a floating timber at full speed - memo to self - hire a more competent pilot next trip...... The awesome power available broke the drive spring and the beast raced without drive before I could tame her. Since then she will start on first pull and run perfectly...

Re: Century score
There are 60 moorings off Golant and plenty more deep water ones down at Wiseman's Reach. Without an outboard you won't get far rowing when the tie is agin. Great place for the gig rowers however - particularly big strong crews...... http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv137/NikonFM3/FG2_zpsj9bhftsb....

Re: Century score
The ebb at Golant on springs is like someone pulled the plug out after periods of sustained heavy rain up on Bodmin Moor. Can reach 4 knots so one needs a good seagull or two. Fortunately am not short in that respect. http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv137/NikonFM3/DSC_8559_zpshiklj6zy.jpg Robin

Century score
http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv137/NikonFM3/DSC_9834_zpsfrre8dhx.jpg Running a proper' ansome old Century on the Avon at the moment. Normally use the Forty Plus or the Featherweight as they are much handier but a great advantage of the Century is that punching a big tide at 1/4 throttle it is...

Re: Silver Centry
Having bought two Silver Centuries Plus models - one 1976 the other 1977 - both" out of the box " I would pay up to £400 for it. Engines built around that period were from the golden age of British Seagull - better made than the in later years and if literally "as new" will last ...

Re: Good weather for the gulls !
http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv137/NikonFM3/DSC_8021_zpslpdl2pqs.jpg It was more than adequately bearable on the Fowey yesterday.... Gulls very happy. Bit chillier today. Incidentally..... what a great little engine the 40+ is. On Sunday I helped recover a friend's 17ft Sea Nymph motor boat w...
