Thanks Jim. I have already trodden that route, with very little success I'm afraid. The local paper have been most helpful, but it appears the Seagull Factory on the Quay was, well, just a sort of shed with no aesthetic value, so nobody snapped it. Of course looking away from it there are thousands ...

Oh Dear! Victor Meldrew is a registered user! I'll have you know that the local recycling officer is one of my foredeck crew - she handles the spinnaker very niftily - and she has officially approved my use of what you call a refuse bin. Her brother sold me my favourite 40 plus, and everything in th...

Yes they are reliable, yes they should be easy to start, and yes, it'll be fine on a Drascombe . If you have problems, then this is the forum to ask; and John is the man to give the thing a service for you. If you let me know your e-mail address I can send you a copy of the operating instructions. T...

Forgot to mention - I have a British Seagull photo from about 1953. It shows two launches - each about 16 foot - being propelled by a single 102. One launch is towing the other. The jumble of people in each boat is hard to count, but I reckon there must be close to 30 passengers. OK it's a 102, but ...

Re: Will a Forty Plus push a 16 foot boat?

Yes it'll push a 16 foot launch.
I regularly take my 19 foot cruiser/racer out around Poole Harbour with a 40 plus, and whilst it hasn't quite the oomph of my Mariner 3.3 it'll shove me along quite happily. I don't know how much your launch weighs, but my R19 is 680 Kilos. Good luck!

Wartime Seagulls

Hi everyone. I'm trying to find any surviving photos of the British Seagull factory on the Quay in Poole during the Forties and Fifties. Can anyone help? I'm also trying to trace hard information as to the use of these motors during the war. Anyone got any photos or reminiscences they'd care to shar...

Re: Seagull ads (american) from 30's

Interesting. Yes you're right, but there is a connection. When Marston's sold the rights to the Bristol Power Boat Company in 1937, they called themselves 'British Segull'. At least one writer - Peter Hunn - has stated that this was to avoid confusion with the 'Sea Gull' range in the States. I prefe...
