Re: original transom bracket

They are a 1970s accessory, not made by seagull. It's called a "Rotogull" They do have a tendency to seize up I've heard.

Re: B.M.B. Mariner

That's a really interesting find, not many of those BMB inboards about. I have an outboard version similar to that, which I bought for spares, but is actually complete, still in its box.
I'd agree its worth cleaning out the water jacket, the cylinders are a weak spot for corrosion.

Re: Missing Word In Old Decal

There are quite few little differences in decals over the years, here are the ones John sells at SOS.

Re: AC 17964 Revisited

Like the way you have preserved the tank. I was thinking of doing the same with my very original HSD. Just giving the tank a wash and a couple of thin coats of lacquer.
Nice original engine.

Re: Something happened

Don't put grease in the lower unit, it will result in little or no lubrication to the gears and pinion bush. If you put 140 grade oil in and fill it to just below the level of the prop shaft it will be fine.

Re: Restoration

Another option is to take a thinner gear oil such as 90 grade and mix in some general purpose grease in to thicken it a bit.

Re: Amal carb banjo fiber washers

If you look around you will find in the US for sure. These parts are often common sizes used in different applications. You can even make your own from thick gasket material.

Re: Amal carb banjo fiber washers

If you are in the US, try any classic motorcycle dealers, or even look on ebay. Don't overtighten the banjo bolt, the threads in the carb body can easily strip out.
