Re: Villiers Coils

Great bit of DIY this. (and to a budget as well, that's impressive) Just what this forum needs. :P There must be thousands of dead villiers coils all over the place, with more dying every year and this could very well be a good alternative to what some have done already. I think there's a few member...

Re: Modified 102

All good points, and duly noted :P No feelings have been hurt this i end, you're alright  I've done a bit of what you've suggested already Jason. The only fly in the ointment is my big heavy "barge" as you call it  (hence my interest in building a smaller and lighter boat that ...

Re: Modified 102

Shall i try to explain things a bit simpler here before we tie ourselves in knots again. I haven't built anything yet. Yes, wherever possible i would like to build a 102 that to all intents and purposes looks like any other 102 as far as possible. Yes, i'd like to keep the 102 gearbox, with whatever...

Re: Modified 102

In order of "madness" perhaps we could go something like this from mild to wild. This is just an example off the top of my head, you will of course have your own ideas which may be similar or not. Stage 1= mild clean up to all ports, perhaps even a basic balancing job (if some have done th...

Re: Modified 102

I'm not suggesting we go mad with a 102, merely give it a good seeing to, somewhat in a sensible manner. But it would be kind of fun to see what is possible with some fairly stock(ish) components. Cherry picked of course. Others may have a different reason for modifying their gull. Mine are purely f...

Re: 97cc Seagull

Oooohhh touched a nerve there i think Jason has a set of skills that has proven him some success as do you Chas. He obviously has a lot of patient mates on hand to help as well :P Absolutely nothing wrong with that in my book Chas. but if we can't compare notes once in a while what's the point in ha...

Re: Unusual serial number

Depends on who's doing the repair work in the first place! Who stamped the original cases to begin with? What do the numbers and letters actually mean that we see on the cases? A 3 character engine ident e.g WSC or better still ESC would make sense for this (look at the 3 long posts that would norma...

Re: Unusual serial number

Odd indeed Jacob Do you think this has been engraved or is it stamped? The outboard itself looks to be something along the lines of a WSPC if the photos are accurate. Possibly a replacement set of crankcases that hadn't been stamped. (i've got a couple of sets like this with nothing on them) The fon...

Re: Modified 102

Jason Do you have any pics of these aluminium con-rods at all? I have a few century/102 con-rods of varying types and ages. How beefy are they? Could we compare a beefy one with a "normal" one side by side for careful analysis. I hadn't realised it was you that made these "hot rod&quo...

Re: Modified 102

Hmm. nearly the same idea i was thinking, but not quite what i had in mind. Interesting though I was thinking of fabricating a small "thing" (that's what i'm calling it for now) that's actually fixed into the inlet tract of the 102, similar to your pics with just 1 petal for simplicity's s...

Re: 97cc Seagull

 but also 8) How cool is that. Another seagull "tweeker" in our midst. Gareth, you really MUST get this out on the water again and test it, then let us know about some general performance figures. Speed across the water, the type of boat you're using, engine revs etc. oh and the typ...

Modified 102

Here we are talking about modifying an old round block 102 seagull to see if we can generate a bit more power and speed without the motor self destructing itself to bits at wide open throttle, as in a racing situation :P You join us now having previously been on "Boats and Seagulls" thread...

Re: Boats ans Seagulls.

I agree. Maybe we should move this to another section.
All good though :P

Shall we move over to the "racing" section where we can resume this in the proper place.

Re: Boats ans Seagulls.

I probably have missed out one or two things along the line somewhere, perhaps someone with far more experience at this could expand on what i've missed, but this modifying lark can easily become quite a personal thing too. Some things it has to be said work well, and some need quite extensive testin...
