Re: Mk1 Ignition system
If you are interested there was an article in the Antique Oatboarder in July 1991 that described how to build one. Everything could be found at a Radio Shack in the USA. I did build one in about 1992 and have used it ever since - it does work. I can't seem to load it here, so if anyone wants a copy,...

Re: data on 102 motors
Jon,
Perhaps it would be a good idea to list out the features you would like us to report back to you on - a checklist of sorts. I have 102's, but do not know what sort of details you are looking for.

Re: Loss of power in Century
Re trying to lift lowerhead off, it is probably the water tube the is sticking. Try to pry upwards between bottom of crankcase and top of driveshaft tube. Re waterpump housing -try to twist the housing sideways a little bit with a rubber or dead blow hammer to try to free up where it clamps around t...

Re: Loss of power in Century
You can either loosen the pinch bolt that holds the waterpump housing to the driveshaft and then try to wiggle/pound/whatever that down off the driveshaft tube. then the cylinder should slide off the crankcase with the exhaust tube attached to it. Or you can undo the 2 nuts holding the crankcase to ...

Re: Loss of power in Century
If the engine has been used in fresh water, the cylinder head bolts will most likely come out pretty easily. If salt water use, all bets are off. Since it is pumping wtaer fine at the moment, I would be inclined to leave cylinder head alone. If need be later, you can attempt to remove it without dis...

Or from a gauge that is faulty. I have a hard time beleiving the engine would run as well as it did on numbers that were truely that low

Re: new here with questions
Doubtt he 5 blade prop will work ont he small motor. Yes you can cut a long haft engine down to a short, or any length you want for that matter. Just cut equal amounts off the driveshaft tube, exhaust tube, water tube and the driveshaft. If you have a clutch, you will need to cut the shift rod as we...

Re: Loss of power in Century
On the compression test, I agree that those numbers obtained are very low. Did you pull make several (3-4) pulls to make sure you get the highest reading? One pull is not normally sufficient. Guess my concern is that it seems to start pretty easily for an engine with that low or compression (ie 2 pu...

Re: Loss of power in Century
One other thought. Can you detect any side ways movement of the crankshaft? Grip flywheel and see if you detect movement sideways. Givem that PO ran on 25:1 mix, it is possible the carnkcase bushes are worn, allowing loss of primary compression.

Re: Loss of power in Century
If you are familar with working on small engines such as this one, you should be able to gauge compression by turning the flywheel by hand and seeing if there is much bounce to it as you roll it through the compression stroke. If you can spin the flywheel by hand without feeling much resistance due ...

Re: Loss of power in Century
Did you try using partial choke to see if that would improve things? If it did, perhaps carb is not as clean as it needs to be. Have you clecked and cleaned the points? If it has been sitting for decades, these will most likely be dirty and cause no or erratic spark. Did you clean the fuel tank and ...
