Re: Can I reuse my piston on my 102?(pictures attached)

my offer still stands PAT.
if you need a replacement piston, i've got one here but you'll need new rings to go with it!
CI is right. do the job properly the first time. dont muck about with it. you'll thank me later

Re: Old One Running

not sad at all! AS AND WHEN (if i ever do manage to get hold of one of these) i think i would be too scared to actually use it. far too valuable in my eyes at least. far better to run it occasionally in the bin,the rest of the time keep it in the front room nice and dry and warm, maybe stroke it lov...

Re: Carb for FVP

evert the carburetter that you need will look identicle to this one except the venturi is slightly smaller for the fv/fvp as i understand. this carb will fit but it will have a slightly larger venturi (sucks more air) so maybe you will need to adjust the fuel mixture. perhaps better to try and find ...

Re: Can I reuse my piston on my 102?(pictures attached)

charles i stand corrected about chainsaw oil. i had always believed that using oil from an air cooled motor in an outboard that tends to run cooler would produce more carbon build up, and that the lubricating properties were different with extremes of temperature. incedentally, i use ROCK semi synth...

Re: £50 Marston ON

yeap that's the one! was it all there, apart from the piston and the broken con rod? it looked pretty good in the photos. VERY VERY JEALOUS!!! (curses)   good to see that its back together again and working well though. good job. now where did i see that OA? AT LEAST IT'S GONE ...

Re: Confused as Usual!

SDP came from niander (have a look on his u tube channel it's on there) SD came from a chap in liverpool. C has so far been assembled from spare parts. all the other SD type gearboxes i have, their appendages are on the port side! more research into this "nipple nonsense" should carry on f...

Re: Can I reuse my piston on my 102?(pictures attached)

CHAINSAW OIL!!!!! that could be half the trouble? chainsaws are aircooled, seagulls are watercooled (depending on waterflow through the waterjacket) chainsaw oil will be totally different to outboard oil and will burn differently. what ratio of fuel to oil are you using. (hopefully 10:1) as charles ...

Re: Can I reuse my piston on my 102?(pictures attached)

hi pat. dont put the motor together with this piston in it. its scrap buddy! the piston (to some degree) will be making some of the compression, the rest will be done by the rings. the localised corrosion on the piston skirt (below the rings and the "stepped area") will eventually lead to ...

Re: Confused as Usual!

interesting thread about "nipples" (human or mechanical :D )

what do you make of these then?
from top to bottom SDP, SD (both sides of the box and brass exhaust) and C.
does that make this SD one of those 10% unusual ones?

Re: D9666 restoration

hi adrian i'm not bothered about the piston or rings. they're both shot to bits anyway.the piston skirt is slightly melted in places????? :o  evidence of a LOT of excessive heat in this engine already (remember the block) it was only a matter of time before it would have seized up totally. i ...

Re: Carb for FVP

hi evert with regards to the carburetter, have you tried the normal villiers carb 1/2" but on the needle jet turn the small screw down 1-2 turns down from the top, this will adjust the mixture a little. the 7/8" carburetter that the fv has as normal is difficult to locate. i have an fv mys...

Re: D9666 restoration

so at the moment we dont have a piston (well i do, its just not the right one though) original one is the SD type with no circlip on the gudgeon pin, the 'standby' piston has the circlips. top ring on the original piston is seized in place and will only come off if i break it? i'm not worried though...
