Re: 55

Two more questions. 1- From a brochure of1980, (my motor's year) of the 55, the propeller diameter should be 8" (= 203 mm). My prop diameter is 7" 15/32" (= 190 mm). It is a little dented but I wonder if it can have worn out so much (6.5 mm = 1/4" each blade). Perhaps more differ...

Re: hello from france (LLS)

Bienvenue in the forum! I never thought to the comparison of the Seagull with the Velo Solex. It is true!.(I have a Solex). I would add: The Seagull is the Deux Chevaux of the water! (I had a 2CV too). You will see: the Seagull is the kind of old engine you fall in love with. I see from the map that ...

55

Hi, I inherited or borrowed for life from my brother the Seagull 55 EFPC 154 AA0, out of commissioning for decades, and am preparing it for using on my Drascombe Dabber. I took a few photo even before cleaning it. Turning the flywheel by hand it gave an unpleasant noise, although not a heavy mechani...

Re: 40+ reversing

Thank you RexNZ, What I am thinking of is something lighter than the gas bottle. I don't yet know how to insert a sketch in a post, anyway the spoiler should be made of galvanized or ss sheet, stiffened by a heavvyer frame. Its shape thus should be developable, i.e. bent from a flat sheet. Two possi...

Re: 40+ reversing

Hi everybody, Charlesp, the swinging flange that I saw was home made, wooden, in two halves. I can't remember any more details. Reversing the 2 stroke motor direction appeared in this forum, together with the timing issue; as reversing is mostly used in a hurry, one must have absolute trust in the i...

40+ reversing

Hi, I own a Fourty Plus of 1963, S.N. SJP 894 E3. I used it on a 12 feet sailing dinghy in the first place and later on a Drascombe Dabber (15'6" open yawl). The Seagull is by far the best outboard for reliability, simplicity, non corrosion, dimensions, weight and, last but not least, character....
