Throttle Lever

I'm looking for an early Amal throttle control. These have the longer arm than later types and were fitted during the mid to late forties.
Thanks,
Ray

Re: Working on the "D"

I had both the exhaust and the drive shaft tube chrome plated. All the other bright bits are nickelled.

Re: Working on the "D"

The metal fuel tank appeared to be in good condition with no dents, but upon closer inspection, there was pitting and corrosion in places on the outside surface. Inside was smooth but with some slight surface rust. I filled the tank with water and left overnight to check for pin hole leaks - all goo...

Re: Working on the "D"

Mine is much the same spec as Charles' but with a steel bayonet tank and flat top ignition. Interesting about the lack of core plugs. I'm sure that the cylinder that came with the motor I have is from a later model (the exhaust flange is the longer type), but at least the lack of core plugs is appro...

Re: Working on the "D"

The parts that I purchased lacked the silencer tube (1310) and silencer clip (1312). I was able to source some 3 inch by 1/16" brass tube so purchased a piece 17 1/2" long. The wall size was slightly thicker than the original. I had to grind out the inner wall so that it slipped over the e...

Re: Working on the "D"

Magneto. I was able to disassemble the parts from the magneto baseplate without too much difficulty. The points are of the earlier design without the sliding gap adjustment. I replaced the low tension lead as the insulation was crumbling. The eye terminal attached to the wire (ordered from Sheridan)...

Re: electrolysis rust removal

Alas no, this cylinder is off AD4233, a 1948 outboard. It has the slotted welsh plugs instead of the hex plugs that the D would have. I could use it on the D but will keep it together with it's crankcase for originality. I have the matching gearbox and prop so will assemble this one after the D. I'm...

electrolysis rust removal

Included in a box of bits I came across, were most of the parts from an early 1948 AD. The cylinder was in poor condition being completely blocked with rust and there was a crack around one of the securing bolts that probably occured during the dismantling. The rust was rock hard and wouldn't easily...

Re: Working on the "D"

Bracket - I have most of the parts for a bracket of around the vintage that would suit this Seagull. The main frame bracket (1326) in the photo of the parts is from a later model (102 plus?) and doesn't have the holes in the side of the frame for the split pins. The main frame bracket of the assembl...

Re: Working on the "D"

Thanks for your encouragement and offers of help. As regards originality, I'm lucky that there has previously been posted on this site, a line drawing with part numbers for a 1946 model. I'll use the parts numbers from this drawing when I reference things. (drawing posted again below) The are also a...

Working on the "D"

I've decided to assemble a D series motor from a "box of bits" that I purchased from e-bay and from parts I already have and from parts sourced elsewhere. My aim is to make the outboard as close to original as possible (without being too pedantic about all the details), and to end up with ...

Re: Seagull Threads (Nuts and Bolts)

I was chasing the backing nut for the pipe fitting in the exhaust pipe. My local nuts and bolt store measured the fitting thread as 1/4" BSPF and sent me across the road to a hydraulic hose as they didn't stock the fitting. The back nut I purchased fitted both threads on the fitting. (The F on ...

Re: Another box of bits

I picked up the parts yesterday. Most parts are from the same motor with a few parts from later 102's in the box (along with various unidenfied parts that aren't from Seagull.) The crankcase is stamped D2120 so a 1946 model. The cylinder block doesn't have threaded welsh plugs so maybe a later repla...

Re: Box of Bits

I thought I would post a few pics of the 40 plus that came with the box of parts. I had the tank powder coated but wasn't satisfied with the finish so haven't put on a transfer just yet. Apart from that, I'm happy with the result. 40 Plus MK II.jpg 40 plus bracket & engine.jpg 40 plus gear b...

Re: A little gift

Great piece of history.

On page 2, in the list of spares, it specifies the spark plug as a Sintox C3. This is a Lodge plug. Did the SD's have Lodge from the factory or was this just the army spec for the replacement? I can't recall this plug being mentioned in any of the posts I've read.
