Just an idea

Post by Keith.P »

I was thinking that most of the seagull outings don't come to anything much, most of the time and my boat is only suitable for the inland waterways and I know some are in the same boat, so to speak.
What I thought was instead of lugging boats about, how about setting up some sort of swap meet, come gathering, I know the weather is not conducive to this sort of thing at the moment, but maybe later having a gathering of anoraks in some pub car park or whatever venue would be suitable, for a swap, meet and chat.
It would be an excuse to thin out the parts bin and meet some more experts, Just an suggestion.

Depending on where, Keith that's a good idea, as I keep promising myself a good clear out, to make some space!

Good idea, a seagull gathering would be a good idea, bring what you have, boxes of bits to swap or sell, and even show an engine or two off.

I could offer a waterside venue in the East Midlands with a slipway, but maybe a bit too north for many?

How about we combine the Hayling Island bash with a shore based gathering, show, swap, buy sell etc. Even better if we could see some of the rarer engines.

Hayling is not realy a practical suggestion Oyster, all is has is a busy public car park, I wasn't too happy leaving my race motor & the boat in there overnight, & adding a few sexy outboards, to all my surplus disposable bits & including the race stuff required, wouldn't bode well for a good nights sleep!

ADRIAN
East midlands is allright for me, i'll travel to most places within reason towing the boat.
PM me with some details and get the word out to more of us and see what comes of it!
I'm game.

Now a swap meet, that sounds brilliant! Only problem is where? M4 corridor somewhere perhaps! How about several different locations for other members that live at the back of beyond.(makes things a bit fairer for anybody that cant get to one location but could get to somewhere else)

Motors on display as well,i'm liking that.

Sounds a great idea.
A pub (with a suitable car park) somewhere along the M4 corridor sounds ok. Newbury area perhaps?

I can't beleive it's nearly a year ago since this was first posted. Where has the time gone?

I still think this is a brilliant idea. Towing boats on trailers around the country gets a bit hit and miss at times, but a gathering in a central location sounds really good.
There must be loads of members on here that perhaps cannot get to Cholsey,Lerryn,Hayling island etc. for whatever reason. We all lead busy lives i understand that, but with a bit of careful planning i'm sure we can do this.

Any suggestions gents? (and ladies)
Where would you like to meet up? I think there might be a possibility of more than one location, wait and see.
What would you like to see and do? No rules

For some of us on here, we've been collecting all sorts of seagull stuff that probably will never get used, so this makes for a good excuse to have a clear out so to speak.

You never know, depending on how popular this is, it could become a regular event.
All up to you guys.

Ryka's cafe at Box Hill, Surry seem to be a popular place. My early Transit brethren meet there.

On the Canal trip from Wolverhampton to London in June this year I shall be passing close by so thought that to make a diversion up river to Cholsey would be a great idea. Ill check the date that I will be passing. Would be good if we could schedule a meet

"Box hill" is a bit too far out of the way really Hugz, but i know EXACTLY where you mean. I used to live not that far away before i moved to the west country.

Probably not far for H-A though as it's his neck of the woods. :P

Box Hill, Victoria, Australia sounds perfect. It's only half hour up the road from me
