the 'Bay'

Post by timberman2004 »

did anyone else notice a 'spares and repairs' just recently on Ebay ?

nothing special except the transom bracket appeared to be a reversing 2 hole bracket with an inner holder and an outer ring ....if this is correct

bugger was, that the item got ammended mid-bid to remove the interesting bracket ( which was the only reason I bid) and supplied a std transom bracket ....
which made it just another ordinary unloved bit of metal

Anyone 'fess up to snapping it up ?? if indeed that is what it was

Yes I saw it, and thought that someone must have done a bit of crafty trading.

Looked like a simple aluminium casting, could not see how the engine was held vertically whilst in the swivel bit.

Perhaps they were no good or there would be more of them?

Have not seen any more shed pics yet !
appeared to be a reversing 2 hole bracket with an inner holder and an outer ring . Yes i also spoted this item and contenplated a bid but after close viewing castings looked pitted. As this was not a proper seagull part ,and due to the salt deposits in my local waters causing (eating) problems for anything that is up to spec. I was chewing over the idea of fetling up a similar design out of stainless .

Project for this winter i think, if it works out ok i will post some results and dimentions
Grovel ,grovel, beg bow ,and tug on the old for lock.
John if this is not an Oficial Seagull product any chance of a sketch from you or may be a photo if you have one thanks.

hello HA

nothing like a good old thick plot ....so you've seen my allotment ???

wished I was clever enough for insider dealing ...regrettably not so smart

seagull did do a bracket arrangement whereby you could 'reverse' the thrust of the motor .... all other control of it went to crap, as it was all facing the wrong way, but you could go backwards

I just fancied this bit of seagull nit-wittery for the collection...whimsically

RotaGull

Post by John@sos »

Hello Folks,

have read the thread with interest and think I may be able to solve the mystery.

Was this a 'Rotagull' Bracket I wonder?

Not made nor sanctioned by Seagull it allowed a forty model to rotate and thus reverse.

Trouble is the extra strain on the bracket distorted it, as the gull was now further back. Also the bracket was made simply from cast Ali and after a little exposure to salt it refused to rotate.. Far too much friction.

I still have one as a museum piece and there is one pictured on the nostagia pages.

Thanks John I knew i had seen one somewhere, as i suspected your the man in the Know but appers that its not worth the trouble to try to recreate this historical piece in stainless.

It is a bit mean selling your baby on ebay, I am sure your wife will be very upset. Unless of course you you have loads of kids, and wont miss the odd one or two.
