LOOSE MAGNETO PLATES

Post by bigoink »

Ive just checked several of my seagulls and two of them appear to have magneto plates that wobble about.......obviously its not doing much for the ignition timing . The problem appears to be a loose fit where the magneto plate fits onto the crankcase. No doubt this is a common problem .....what is the accepted method of fixing it ? Dont say," tighten the timing plate screw" ......as the problem is with the actual fit of the plate. :?

There is a fix of sorts for this. If you take the flywheel off, because I do not think it can be done with it on, you can use a small pointed punch and make a close circle of indents round the centre . this will force the Ali to swell into the middle, removing most of the play. I have seen it done on many motors I have seen and used the trick myself....

hope it helps,

Regards,
John
