Water proofing

Post by 666 »

Stuck my forty plus on the back of my Wayfarer last week and went out fishing in Cardigan Bay (from Shell Island) all was well, motor started first pull everytime i decided to move, except when it was time to go back in   Got back ashore (after rowing in) and the damn thing fired up on the second pull

My question is, Is there a decent damp proof spray anyone would recomend? I figured WD-40 would be the main answer but wondered if there is a better marine type spray?

Any othe info on keeping the electickery dry would be gratefully recieved!

Cheers

I don't think it was dampness that caused the problem. Take a spare plug and change it over next time. Wonder if you flooded her by using the choke when warm?? Could be a loose connection, though unlikely. If you squirt wd40 etc around, dust and dirt will attach to her causing bigger problems.

Did you catch anything?

they are very waterproof, I don't even run a plug cap on mine and it gets used at times in rough conditions.
I find with the villiers ignition it is a good idea every now and then to take the plug lead out of the magneto and give it a spray in the hole where the plug lead goes in and also clean the end of the lead,

Had second plug with me, i seemed to be geting no spark from either?

Didnt need the choke after the initial start up, it was running fine!

Noticed water dripping from under the flywheel so figured that it was water causing the problem?
