Re: Serial Number Identifier
Probably an "SJM". Numbers fit . Somebody was thinking about something else and forgot to stamp the "S" in the factory. It happened...... more than once.

Re: Serial Number Identifier
Could someone please look on ebay at a newly listed seagull outboard.
I have spoken to the owner and he is adamant after looking on the SOS site that the info is correct, also the outboard is complete.
If you read the add-on to his description, to my mind this is totally wrong. Is it just me?

Re: Serial Number Identifier
Hi, my name is Skip and I am new to this forum. I am over here in Omaha NE. I have had acouple of seagulls yrs ago and never really did any work to them because they ran great. Now I have just picked up a Minus 40 and would like to find out the year it was built. The serial # is SJM358L3. It is one of those ones that had that letter L in the serial that was never really there acording to some people. Would the SJM358 put in about the 1955 -56 range for being built? It is a nice engine that runs and I would like to cleanit up and use on a small pram for the wife. Thanks in advance for any help . Skip.
