a good seagull
there are plenty on ebay for sale but as a newbie how do i pick a reasonable one, i need one for a 10ft dinghy any advice gratefully received THANKS
Re: a good seagull
Ebay is a little hit & miss on most things.
It all depends on what you want as well as what is best for the boat.
Do you want a vintage motor to restore and show off after, or with a recoil start, or even a clutch.
We can point you in the right direction, if you know that you want.

Knowing your location would help also, as shipping can be expensive
Re: a good seagull
thanks for replies my location is wigan in lancs and would like a seagull 4 or 5 hp or less if you knowledgeable persons advise that less is better, i would like a older rather than newer model to keep me busy during winters

Re: a good seagull
I would say that for a 10 foot boat, your best bet would be a 40 Plus.
A 40 Plus pushes my 14 foot boat very easily.
There are loads of 40 Plus engines available, I would go for one with a gold coloured flywheel http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/i_ ... 20plus.jpg
Spares are cheap and easy to find, try to get one that has a good tank and good chrome on the leg.
Prices vary from £25.00 to £200.00. I would pay between £60-£80 for one with good chrome and tank.
I would rather have one that has not been got at, so buying a non runner for me would be the way to go.
Look for a dirty looking, untouched complete engine. Ideally sold away from the coast next to a fresh water river.
A good engine to start your collection.

102 for sale in Bolton. It is a shortshaft. 102 may be a bit too big for a small boat but really nice to work on. If I still lived in Springfield I would have bid on it.

Are you sure that's a short one?
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
