Shall we try and get to Cholsey before end of year
I was speaking to Charles L, and he was saying that Blue was asking about Cholsey.
I have not been there this year, so was wondering if we still have time after the "wind down run".
May even get Rick and Peter to show their faces before the year is out.
If anyone has not read about Cholsey, it is a village on the Thames, that has a good slip and a pub not that far away.
We have had a number of good gatherings there, very low key, run what you brung.
It is also very near Seagull HQ, which we also can visit.
So if anyone is interested then we can arrange a date, and hope for good weather.

Nice to have a final fling before the turn of the year - I would come to gawp and have a beer if nothing else (must get a towbar sorted)

Re: Shall we try and get to Cholsey before end of year
28th October
I am planning to launch at 10.00am at Cholsey slip, I shall bring 2 or more boats.
This will be a "hell or high water event" it may rain so bring a coat and perhaps a change of clothes.
As per past events it may be worth popping down to the official home of "British Seagull" might not want ice creams, but I am sure they will have Tea or Coffee. ( perhaps Charles L will ask Jackie if that is OK, I am still licking my wounds after "Tesco Gate").
After the exciting visit to "British Seagull" then it will be W.O.T. up to the pub in Wallingford only a few miles on a beautiful stretch of the Thames.
Good value pub grub, couple of pints, or soft drinks. Then back to the slip.
Drag the boats out, cup of tea and home.
Low key event, Rick might even bring his car without a tow bar
.
Let me know if you want to come. I will email Timberman as he found this great slip, perhaps he will be able to come.

"Shall we try and get to Cholsey before end of year."
It would appear not.
I will unload my van, stick the engines back in the shed.
Cancelled due to lack of Interest and Charles has man Flue
Lerryn December 8th is the next event in the UK, Can I win it three years in a row ? if so do I keep the Ashes.
What did the antipodians say "I agree they are mostly full of bullshit and bravdo" I am sure they are very wrong, perhaps next year we will prove it?

HA it seems to be the common thread with the English Seagull collectors all talk and no action, maybe you should organize an event where they run the engines in a row of wheely bins and stand around taking videos and talking s...t. I feel sorry for you guys that make the effort to organize an event and the others don't show very disapointing. In hotrodding we call the cars that people wont drive because they have over done them, Trailer Queens. So maybe we should call the Seagull equivalent Wheely Bin Queens.

How about somewhere half way up the UK ?
Re: Shall we try and get to Cholsey before end of year
Touchy stuff from this guy Tinker, quite offensive in fact.
For us guys who live up north, a round trip of 1000 miles is quite excessive for an afternoon's gathering. As we have said before, midway would possibly attract more attention from us guys, then you'd find the guys down south won't travel. Unfortunately that's life, distance, expense and time become major factors.
My thoughts would be for this guy and his likes, to keep their "Wheelie Bin Queen" comments to themselves and stick to the issues of Seagull Engines.
Sorry H-A this event didn't go as planned, you do a lot of good work organising these events with Charles and John, unfortunately as you will realise where the northern guys are coming from. We support you from a distance.

Re: Shall we try and get to Cholsey before end of year
I tried to arrange a midlands meet last year, found a site that had camping, easy access and launching. Alas nobody came. The Hayling bash was good fun, nice to meet people, and I'm intending to be back next year! I would have gone to John's bash, if I was not on holiday, shame it had to be cancelled.
I suspect that to many seagull fanatics their interest in these engines is limited to rebuilding and restoring at home. I personally only get my engines out on the water 4-5 times per year, but spend lots of time in my garage. Each to their own.
A seagull running in a wheelie bin is another seagull running, which is great as far as I'm concerned. The seagull scene seems to be growing around the world, so lets focus on keeping that going, without the sarcastic comments.

Re: Shall we try and get to Cholsey before end of year
It's not easy to come up with a good argument to counter the Kiwi comments, as when you go to one of their gatherings, more than half of the entrants have a 3+ hour drive to get there & some a lot more.
That's why the Waikato race is held at Easter, Friday to get there, Saturday & Sunday boating, & Sunday the drive home.
I think the 170 comment was directed at me & was probably motivated by the fact, that my 170 doesn't go like a Seagull, well not a Kiwi one anyway!
I belive there is an ingrained fear in NZ that if they put their Seagulls in a wheelie bin, they will end up as landfill as from their appearance it would be their rightfull home!
An easy mistake for the binmen to make!

Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
