Whats a seagull 170 worth?

Post by carl170 »

One of these has come into my possesion.

Does anyone know what sort of price I should be asking for it? (If I actually decide to sell it!)

Are there many about? I have never seen another one.

Cheers

Hello Carl - I don't know if anyone can put a value on 170's - there are less of them about than other Seagulls, as they were only made in the '80's, when Japanese and American motors had a virtual stranglehold on the outboard market. The 170's and 125's had a reputation for failure of the big end cap - you will find comments on this on this site - under the different models section I think - where reportedly the consequence was that spares ran out, and there are now none available (they are different to other models of Seagull)
Pricewise, it depends on condition and all the usual things, and finally what people will pay. I bought one recently - not cosmetically the best but all up and running and the big end seems OK - for £70.00, a friend paid a similar amount for one last year, but an absolutely immaculate and hardly run one went for £300.00 plus on ebay recently.
