Better tank for WSPCL

Hello

Newbie alert, please be gentle....

I have a WSPCL outboard with a steel tank

It's pretty rusty, so i'm looking to replace it with a brass one - Is this possible? If so, what model should I look for? Are they all interchangeable, or am I limited with my options? I notice my tank has two outlet on the underside - one plugged.

OR

What's the best chemical to use to clean up the current tank? If I can get it clean, then i'm happy to store the outboard with a full tank of juice when not in use to prevent it rusting up again.

Welcome to the forum Plenty of good advice here, and I'm sure you will enjoy working on your seagull. The steel tanks are generally seen as being a little suspect due to corrosion etc. but a decent one if looked after will last.

Brass tanks are a direct replacement on your engine, so keep your eyes open for one. John at SOS who sponsors this forum will be able to supply a brass tank, or there are usually tanks for sale on ebay. The twin outlet is so the tank can be used on different models of engine where the carb is on the opposite side.

To clean your tank out a caustic soda solution usually works well. I fill with paraffin for a couple of days, then half fill with cold water, add the caustic soda which comes in a powder form. shake to ensure the caustic has dissolved, then top up with water and leave to soaf for a couple of days. If the inside of your stell tank is rusty, then there are some good acid based cleaners used on motorcycle tanks. Observe all instructions and wear goggles!

Brass tanks are the better tanks though, if you can live with a few dents.

If you can live with plastic, there is a black plastic tank of similar size to the 4.5 L steel tank.
So if by better you mean more utilitarian then you might like the plastic one, I had 2 of them but traded them off for other parts. I just don't like how they look.

sorry forgot to ask - is the fuel filter located in the banjo bolt of an amal 2 jet carb available anywhere?

my airline sent mine flying across the garage and I cant find it
