Seagull Sport wanted

Post by Paris H »

Chaps,

I'm on the look out for a Seagull Sport engine if anyone can help. I'm based in NZ, and they're proving tricky to get hold of!

Come on Charles...... ;-)

I'm not suprised they're hard to find in the land of the long white cloud, only 10 or 12 made it that far.

Why would you want one, I don't think anyone has raced that class in the last couple of years in NZ.

If you have to have one, talk to Ross or Raoul they might have a spare one, but don't expect to steal one, the Bermudians still have an active group in that class & with the power of the Bermudian $, many seem to dissapear in that direction.

I have some bits left over from ones I've broken for spares, like complete bottom halves, cylinder blocks, the odd carb but with spares getting to the end of their availability, expect to pay more than for classic Seagull stuff.

I had seen one for sale locally (Greece) but silly money was required plus more silly money for postage to NZ. I don't know if would you like to get involved.

Maximum size permitted for Seagull racing is 125cc single cylinder.

S135 or S127 is the biggest Selva allowed.

They were allowed as it was a competitive motor available off the shelf for people who wanted to race & who didn't have the ability to keep a late model Seagull going, making a 170, Kingfisher or a 5R peform at race level & last, is not an easy task even with 20 years experience.

Personally I don't think they can be considered a seagull. It's a Selva with a seagull badge. Sold by Seagull for a while, true, but I'm a purist I'm afraid.
