Am reassembling a CPC and notice that the connecting rod was installed by a previous mechanic with the word "SEAGULL" facing down towards the exhaust. The Clymer manual "Old Outboard Service Manual" specifies that it should be installed with "SEAGULL" toward top. Am reluctant to disassemble connecting rod from crankshaft as it looks as if it has been run before, and I think the maxim "leave well enough alone" is generally good advice. Is this a serious matter which should be addressed before buttoning up the assembly?
Clymer also states that the open end of the piston pin should be oriented towards top of motor. Again, is this critical? What is the reason for these respective orientations?
