Looks like an original late coppertop SD to me with a replacement crankcase. Nice find! How do l enter her on the registry with no engine number? I'll sequence her in using the JM number. ls the carb bowl a high amal script? Looking via phone but when the sun arrives I'll peruse better on the puta. How much of the bird decall is intact?

Using the register I would estimate that the engine number would be between 8500.L4. and 9500.L4. The port box nipples supports this too.
I note the (green) cast tank mounts which I believe were only on the early ones and the red tank strap which makes me consider something was going on there.
Or if the cast tank mounts are correct there are motors with port nipples with your JM mag being a later one.. This range were between 2500.L3. and 6000.L3.
Your choice

Good then l think we can assume that it is the earlier L3 range probably circa 1943/44.

Another great find. Well done Tam!
I love your input on this Hugo. Even without serial number you've been able to establish a data range. That speaks volumes for the research you've done so far. Great work mate.
PS: Still waiting for mine to arrive from QLD. I'm advised that it was collected by the freight company yesterday, so hopefully not long now.
Regards,
Spiro
