prop shaft or a gearbox for OJ marston
Hi all
Just wondering if anyone can help with this?
I have an OJ marston that somebody had converted to a clutched gearbox in the distant past! All proper marston bits on it too so there's a chance of some swaps of the redundant parts if anyone out there can provide me with a suitable part in good enough condition for the conversion.
The alternative would be a period correct direct drive gearbox which would make things quite a bit easier for me.
Having read all the previous posts on how fragile some of these older seagulls can be i'm all too aware of the risks involved, but i can handle it.
cheers

For complete authenticity it'll need a drive shaft tube, too, 'coz the clutched version will have the threaded hole at the top.
Is there any possibility this could have been a pre-war conversion done, perhaps, by British Seagull?
Does yours have the pen nib extension at the bottom of the exhaust tube?
If you register this with CharlesUK then he may well have contacts that can help, and he may well have someone waiting for a clutched gearbox for what I must assume is a slightly later motor with a round drive shaft. He has a "wish list" of people, and is always helpful.

blokewithaboat post a picture of your gearbox, so we can see the issues it has.
Have found my gearboxes, took some digging, you forget how much seagull crap you have.
I bought the OJ one about 6 or 8 years ago, when a group of us bought a motor and stripped it for parts.
I was going to change the casing on this one as the skeg is a bit rotten
.
If it were me I would replace the sloped bearing for a plain one and make a new prop shaft, what are the internals of your one like?

Any chance l can get the details of your SD and SDP you have, bwab for SD registry? Though l wouldn't be surprised if l dont already have it.
Incidentally l was at a loss at what bwab meant at first so google searched it and it came up as:
"It is often said that if you can hear a bwap but can't see the clown, you are in grave danger and should leave the premises ..."
Amused me.
