Re: Mystery outboard
Don't bet your life on this, but that finned exhaust looks a mid 50's Jap powered Tidemaster.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
Re: Mystery outboard
Thanks Charles , I was just looking in The old outboard book , could it be a Sea Chief ? I found this pic on an old gumtree listing , they were selling it as a Sea Chief

Re: Mystery outboard
Didn't the Jap powered Sea Chief have a chrome tube drive shaft & exhaust not a fancy cast one?

Re: Mystery outboard
Not sure , the picture in the book was a illustration / advert so was hard to tell . I searched google images and found a few like above , couldn't find a pic of a Tidemaster . I wonder if the leg was originally red , I see traces underneath .

Re: Mystery outboard
Found a couple of images from sales leaflets (sorry if the quality is not very good) - transom bracket is the main difference
Re: Mystery outboard
Thanks for the information , interesting ! The two motors are almost identical but as you say the bracket is different .I'm wondering if mine is an earlier model or possibly just had another stuck on it at some time . A new species for the collection anyway
