I wash the engines that I use in the sea with a hose pipe.

Washing up liquid and a brush, give them a wash off with the hose.

Then I let it run for a few minutes to dry out, followed with a good shot of WD40.

Does the job and gets rid of the salt.

They will stop of you ground out the plug, but not often.

Make sure you keep it out of the carb inlet and don't get it in the tank (shut bleed screw).

It just shows how weather proof they are.

Mint Test! I have done this before as well, usually for ignition.

Remember that the tank has to drained as well as the carb bowl as water will have gotten in tank vent, tickler button etc. Will keep on going aye for the trip but do not store away after something like that, either self induced, or a rough homeward passage.

Maybe a thread as to "External Cooling" should evolve?

I am surprised you did not spray the kid in the vid?

Asking for more he was. My daughter would have equal share of hose down.....

You did not mention weather you had a gasket on block or not? Should have a gasket.

Had it out in the sun all day and used air blower to dry out water inlet and driveshaft and all other parts. Then gave it a good hit with WD-40. And the parts of the film that didnt have the hose on it was when i was wetting them Kind of like telling them to piss of. But they are like golden retreivers and kept coming back for more.

P:s Used original base gasket (that wasnt damaged) with RTV Silastic

All Good except for RTV. Sorry, this stuff has no place whatsoever in an old engine refurbishment or rebuild. ANY Old Dear for that matter........it never existed way back remember.

It should be avoided at all costs. Any joint including a marine gearbox that has a gasket, seal, rope interface on a machine_land or similar.

I know the hype of the makers, many colors and brands but, please, believe me it is a mistake. An easy fix for anybody wanting a job done and "Sealed"????????

The amount you clean away on the outside remains on the inside.

The amount you clean away, look at the squished out thickness..........this thickness is between clean matched surfaces of a case so how reliable is any clamping from fasteners?

RTV will erode away with modern fuels and where does it go? (IT DOES)

If a case seal is required metal to metal a case sealer is required, they used to use varnish like really runny glue?

A case seal is a liquid, very runny and THIN. That is what it does. It is NOT RTV. Glass rub the cases till no light can be seen when held up to the sunlight etc.

If a gasket was designed in, use a gasket! Usually a gasket of the correct material can be installed and done up completely DRY or, a light smear of oil both sides. Surfaces have to be smooth and flat like what we know using a glass plate and wet and dry to obtain?

Holimar make a spray "Gasket Paper Sealer", nice little can. The ONLY helping hand for a paper gasket that works cleanly and serviceable when pulled down the next time.

RTV is my personal pet HATE when Old engines are in my personal care. Care as in client engines that I do from time to time as well as my racks.

Its not much work to take it back of and replace the gasket. Would Aviation gasket goo be ok to use

I use Loctite 5920, which is resistant to most solvents.

I believe the later Seagulls were assembled using this copper orange silicon RTV, I have taken apart 7 that have had silicon sealing the crankcase halves.

I only use it to seal the exhaust to the gearbox.

I have stated MY way with NO RTV etc.

Whatever suites an individual want is OK.

Just my way of Not Doing Things is all
