The only expanding Aussies do, is waistline expanding, caused by pouring gallons of Amber Nectar down their necks, & boasting to us over taxed Poms about how much they can afford to buy with the huge amount of their income that they have left at the end of the month, even in an economic downturn.

You may need to get your spanners out, separate the cylinder from the crankcase and have a look at the piston and bore.
I think Charles is correct that your mate has cooked this engine
You could try a compression test first, if it is low then the piston and rings are probably damaged.

Hmmm...wondering what I was going to do this winter apart from fabricate a new keel, re-new the ob bracket, replace the wiring etc..etc
Well at least the conrod ain't gone,
Anyone know if pistons and rings are available for the 102 cc lump? I take it that all engines of this size use the same piston??

This is the only loop charged engine that Seagull ever made so nothing internal except the later model rings will fit.
It's a lot of work stripping one of these, but well worth it.
I've never understood how people could try to cross the Ocean in a force 9, with a motor they bought off Ebay the day before, & wonder why shit happens only to them.

Thank you for that information Charles.

I feel a touch of being a bit cross coming on. Would you care to explain your comment?

I'm glad someone else has noticed, does Charles make a habit of leaving unwarranted, insulting comments in his posts?

Thanks for this H-A, any idea what sort of reading I should be looking for?

No sorry I do not have a 170.
Charles will know as he has worked on these a lot.
It would think that 80-100 PSI would be normal, but this is just a guess.

Its a pity if you needs parts as these are quite rare as there are so many spares available for seagulls generally they have hardly changed the design or standard dimensions much at all....but i know nothing about this 170...but have loads of spares for the others
But why did you let your m8 anywhere near it...as it sounds like he allowed it to overheat as they dont cool at tick over!

Hi Niander,
Yes, it is my fault. I forgot that he is a
hopeless, useless,
incompetent,
complete and utter know-it-all dickhead!!!!
There, I've said it now. I feel better for that.

Charles Charles Charles, Just last week on our ABC1, there was a docco about waists and beer consumption. It was probably aimed at young things Pre-30ish but came up with the educated conclusion that it (Waist) was not because of alc intake but, "Nibblies" after being intoxicated that put on the bulge.
All very scientific.................not.................but makes pre-30ish feel better, not me.
I drink your UK beers so I blame YOU!
HA!

We only export beers considered "not fit for domestic consumption".
We contemplated printing warning labels like they have on cigarette packets, but decided that pics of big fat beer belly's would be too big a drain on our timber stocks!
