Saving Old Seagulls

I've got an old roller mower with a centrifugal clutch. I'm keeping it to bolt to me wheelchair whens I get older... tartan blanket (where's Tam?)
and a flag... look out or I'll mow ya down!

Its illegal now to have combustion engined bicycles downunder. I have a sachs motorised one but it is legal to have motorised wheelchairs....

Actually prefer a V8 wheel chair, probably need a a roll cage.

Right then, H-A's up for the challenge, who's doing the camera work?

My money's on around 55 minutes. (quite doable by a competent mechanic i would think)


Just so we're absolutely straight on this, just HOW dismantled is this 40 going to be before you put it back together?
Perhaps some ground rules need to be set out first before any spanner whirling begins.

I will strip one when I get a chance Jon, I still feel 10 to 15 minutes is very achievable.
A number of years ago I was told "you can't take the ends off fuel tank" and you "can't straighten bent crankshafts".
Have faith Jon, 55 minutes is way too long, you must never have been self employed.
Camera will be Go-Pro so real time recording, youtube upload will show time taken.
I will post an exploded view picture to show the extent of stripping.

So shall we say, magneto backplate in one piece, crank/Conrod/piston etc in one piece. What about gear box?

I was thinking points left on back plate, pinion left in gearbox,needle left in carb, but every thing else stripped that includes conrod and piston.

I also recall I gave HA a photo of an Anzani knurled fastener (on this forum) and within minutes a photo cam back with a new one have been made.

Yep, I'm with HA.

A wipac back plate only has 7 fasteners.

1. Wire to coil.
2. HT connection underside.
3. Backplate lock screw underside.
4 & 5. 2 nuts locating coil.
6. Screw locating points.
7. Point adjuster screw.

I think this can be reassembled

The ignition systems are going to be different, What's the point in showing how to rebuild an ignition system, if you don't show how to set them up or fix it.
Example, I have rebuilt my ignition, its even got a points cover, but it still doesn't work and what's that sound, is the coil hitting the flywheel, couldn't be.

I think it should be like James May did and have it stripped down to every last part, gear box the lot.... unless it is a pressed in part!
And I will give you an hour to rebuild it!

I didn't think we were going to do it as an educational tool but more as an entertainment. Certainly there wasn't much to learn from the lawnmower reassembler.

You're right, for those who take things apart and fix things, it was nothing new or even helpful in any of the guides he did.
So you're going for an assembly joke, not a guide, just how to do up bolts and screws, in no specific order and it doesn't matter, because it doesn't need to do anything or going to work anyway.
I can see the logic in that.

Now there's an idea.

Why don't we make it a real challenge & change the rules, so he has to wear a full hard hat diving suit, boots as well & instead of air through the inlet pipe use water, timed so that the suit is completely filled in 29 minutes, OH! & he's got to wear boxing gloves.

I bet his wife thinks this is a great idea!
