Embarrassingly it means 'anchoring by an alternative means' or 'ploughing a furrow' or 'gardenting'.

It means that even after lifting my keel giving me 14" draught I still go aground.

As one of my crew said last year 'I thought we might stop because I could see the tufts of grass just in front of us'.

Poole Harbour is very very shallow. Sometimes you can watch the locals in their Poole canoes (they draw 2" - that's right - two inches ) getting out and walking - you can still see their feet!

The old John Marston Ltd. factory building is still standing at Pool St. / Paul St. / Penn Road, Wolverhampton, as is part of the Villiers building in nearby Villiers St..
The Marston building is not in good repair: if you are in Wolverhampton, take a look while you can. The iron rivets on the pointed end where the gold 'Sunbeamland' letters were attached in outboard days are still there.
It is more difficult to access the open sea from Wolverhampton. Water comes in the form of canals.
