Righto gents so your conclusion is -
170 original ali rod and cap should have pb shells
a pb cap should replace the ali one without a shell
a steel reinforcement strap would suffice on the ali cap
a pb rod and cap should be made
(That shattered cap with shells appears to have suffered from corrosion besides any impact)
I shall have my 170 dismantled in the morning. It will be decision time!
