I did manage to get my engine running without changing the carb.

The problem I think may have been it was very cold.
Just below freezing, but on race day it was about 10 or 11 degrees.

I almost did not run in the race, someone had strung ropes across the river. :D

RBT had little floats out side his house, with rope strung between them just below the surface.
They must be part of the Anti Grockle defence system, installed by the local WI.
Or might be left over from the war, to stop invasion.

The day before the race whilst checking out the opposition, I fell into the trap and went speeding through the minefield :oops:

Andy could not believe my response was just "bother" :D

I had to limp back to Fowey at 12mph, then break out the tool box to trim the blades.

Make do and mend.

Slightly less blade area did not make any difference, it might even have raised the engine speed slightly.

I will need to try a slightly smaller prop, as I think I am still slightly over proped.

Indeed it would be only fair Charles. I will talk more nearer the time, crew or spectator, being part of the occassion might be enough.
That's honourable of you to clear H-A's name. I was leg pulling, we all know he made his intentions clear he was out to win. He did, and by all accounts deserved so with the work he put in. The photo of his missus playing piano with a boat at he back was a prime example, dedication and fine tuning.

Don't get me wrong I didn't say he wasn't a "Cheatin Bastard" I just said "I didn't spot any evidence".

You never answered the question, how heavy are you?

HA proved the point, it's better to take a pretty 4 stone daughter than an unattractive 12 stone man!

Please don't get me wrong there is nothing honourable about me!

I'm laughing away here, how silly of me to think there was trust amongst thieves. As for weight, I'm a poultry 10st, just a wee guy. On saying that, I've had the dreaded lurgy for the past few days so I might be a few stone lighter, but 10 is my fighting weight.

Wrong again there is trust between thieves, I trust they are always trying to pull a stroke on me!

If the Dutchmen don't need the space in my boat, your more than welcome.

Not only did I have to tow my boat 250 miles to Lerryn & 250 miles back only to get whooped, I just had to smash through 4 inches of ice on my test tank to flush the water jacket on the useless, tempermental Century I used.

Well I've just about sobered up. Really ought to have had several before the race.
Apologies to 40TPI for not looking up the spelling of that celebrated Dickensian character who epitomises so many.

It was not mentioned that Captain Slow who runs my 200kg 18.5' skiff did break down and took some time to restart. I didn't even see this - the finish could have been more interesting - he registered second.

And I did take the camera but all those buttons faze HID.

Still - wait till I have chance to put together my own little compot for next year HA . . .

Good to see lots of participation

Would be even better to see some more life jackets. That water looks cold

Anyway, What's the minimum crew weight? or, Is there none, because, without a minimum I could count my 5kg dog as a crewman. He's a bona-fide crewman as I need him in the fog as a barking foghorn. PS, He's got a life jacket too.

The youngest crew member was less than 2,
sorry I don't know what they weigh, nappy full or empty.

I am beginning to regret advertising the Lerryn event in this forum when these 'health and safety' regulators start to poke their regimenting nose into a strictly regulated regatta which has been run without mishap for 24 years.

Stay with your New Zealand races where obviously the entrants need their hands holding. Plenty of our entrants had life jackets - those who felt they wanted one. And one of the owners of the safety boats - (which you did not see pictures of, there were at least 6) - has a Jack Russel - which wears his own life jacket.

I'm flattered as I only crept past that green Coleman scanoe even though I had a lighter hull & crew weight & probably only beat him by 150 yards.

So servicing your late model motor fitted with a plastic fuel tank & a recent coat of paint equals souping up.
The moral of this story must be don't restore your Kingfisher or 170 & you'll have no problems.
