The later brass bayonet capped tanks had a smooth end cap joins so that looks more like the steel tank. I would hazard a guess that is a "C" which would be a year or two earlier than the date of the advert. How long did ships take to get to Oz in those days?

Couldn't be 1939 with a shroud air intake.

I'd say you were spot on Hugo! so circa 46 & note the skeletal bracket this is the first documented illustration of it on a dateable motor.

But bear in mind that the art work for that printer's plate was hand etched & therefore expensive, it tended to be still in use well after the motor on it was no longer produced, Charles P & I found many examples of this happening in magazine adds, it didn't help at all when we were researching production dates.
We even found ON & OP pics on post war adds.

Please forgive us a few small errors.
We can't really expect John to devote all of his spare time to editing this site to keep it 101 % accurate, & the errors do allow us to know when other sites have recycled our work no matter how much they deny it.

The info is so cool!

A question bugging me for a while with this that was in a bunch of Gull parts many years ago?

Steel Tank. Had a copper unplated bayonet with silver colour plated breather. It is still around somewhere.....the cap.

It is a clamped tank. Fuel tap on the port side under the cap.
