Now, why is it that British Engineering likes blue smoke and oil leaks?
The other Devil in the mix was "Lucas King Of Darkness" electrics..............another story I am told.

Oil leaks help alleviate the rust caused by salt on the roads

I was told that the wires carry smoke inside them, when the wires let smoke out there's the problem.

I purchased a new seagull from E-bay tonight. Judging by the pics it doesnt look to bad. I dont know what model it is yet. I will post more up when i pick it up this weekend.

Joe Lucas is actually known as the 'Prince of Darkness.' Still having a couple of British bikes ,I know the nickname is not unjust!

I got it home and had a good look into it today, The Model number is LLS 33998. It came up as a century series, Model 100. Manufactured in 1962-1963. Villiers ignition,with lots of spark. The throttle cable that was on it was 1 mtr long

.And well and truly stretched, So i had a Amal carb throttle cable that i retro-fitted using a villiers lawn-mower throttle lever and used a length of fuel line on the carby end of the cable, to have a well adjusted linkage, and the hose holds the cable well clear of the flywheel. I done a compression test, and it came up with 60psi

. I pulled of the fuel tank and flushed it out with some degreaser and the hose, tipped a bit of metho in, and left the tank out in the sun to dry out. I stripped and cleaned the carby. and it was full of unused oil.The fuel tap was blocked, and needs a new cork seal. I cut a new length of fuel line for the fuel tap to carby. Here are some pics to show. I will post up another reply of the lower gearcase

Now for the gearcase

. I unscrewed the cover, and a heap off rusted water came out. I had a bit off drama removing the prop and sliding of the filler cover from the prop shaft. I soaked all the bits in petrol for a while. and cleaned up all the parts. I took a pic of the gear. There is a fair bit of corrosion and pitting on the teeth of the gear. Will this still be ok to put back in and use.

The shaft itself had a lott of pitting and nicks as well. So here is a method i used to clean up the shaft. A 18volt cordless drill and some emery paper.And a wire brush to clean up the gears, Looks like new again.

The pic doesnt show much. But i cleaned out the bush with an old brass rifle cleaner and some wd-40. And its cleaned up like new. And one more thing???? Is that the correct prop spring to have, It looks a bit long.

gears look ok, definitely not the right spring
