Bottom end together again -- looking ok. Start on the noisy end tomorrow.
I would have thought a small slot in the bottom of the exhaust tube would help to prevent damage to the copper water pipe

Looking good.

When the exhaust is clamped to the engine it will sit a little higher up, missing the copper pipe.

Almost finished . I will remove the tank and clean again with nuts , bolts and diesel.

What we want is a picture of it in the tank chugging away, better still on tha back of a "Speedy Bonny Boat".

Top job STM! Nice restoration job. I find it amazing that an engine some would throw in the skip can be brought back to life with a bit of graft.

With all these SDs now restored, how about making sure they are all registered on the Marston registry? I'm sure Charles UK will be pleased to get the details down.

Will the brass carb tube fit the 46n carb ?

I've just bought a brass inlet from John. Finishes the SD off nicely. I'm told it helps starting also.
Incidently mine also ran like a pig when I first ran it. I think what was happening was the float was sticking in the up position, so it ran then started to die until I pushed the tickler, then the float stuck down and fuel leaked everywhere. I changed both float and needle and it seems ok now.

Cool engines these SDs. King of the seagulls in my opinion.

I had just ordered Johns last brass inlet.

You could always make your own trumpet.

HA what is the thread on the thread on the carb for your trumpet? The threads a bit chewed up on mine and needs re cutting. Did the SD have a trumpet or was that a bit of added bling from the Marston era ? Keep up the posts chaps

I think it is 13/16 x 24.

My SD came with the remains of a trumpet.
I can't see it would have been robbed off a Marston.
