Hi can an expert give me a clue as to why my EFPC will only run and rev up when choke slide is across venturi i have removed the carb and made sure the jet is clear and all inside is clean.Engine will only start and run as i say with choke any advise really apreciated.

I’ am no expert on seagulls.
A 2-stroke engine will run on choke if it is getting more air in to the engine than it should, so you look for worn crank bushes or a leak in the crank case,
As long as the carb is all working ok and you have good compression with a good spark then that’s what I would look for, but I’m no expert.

Not really an expert, but check the needle setting to make sure it's at the proper height. If it's set too lean, the mixture could be affected resulting in the need for the choke to run.

Also if it is not getting enough fuel therefore:

Double check that the jet is truly clean. Poke a piece of soft copper wire through carefully (15 amp fuse wire is just the right size)

Check that the passage below the round hole in the centerpiece head is clear.

When refitting the centerpiece note that the retaining screw should be located in the slot in the head , not the round hole.
Note also that there should be a fibre washer under the head of the centrepiece.

Check that the needle is correctly fitted in the piston. There should be a spring under its head and the adjusting screw should (initially at least) be flush with the top of the piston

Check that there is no air leak where the carb fits onto the block.

As said worn main bearings will result in air ingress

The EFPC should be fitted with the Amal 416 carb, & the main jet should be numbered 95.
Can you confirm that this is correct?

With the fuel tank half full of the correct petrol mix (25 : 1) remove the black plastic float bowl which just unscrews, open the fuel cap air vent & turn on the petrol tap.

Is there a constant flow from the needle valve?

If the answer is not yes clean the fuel delivery system between the tank & the needle valve taking special care with the fuel filters on the fuel tap & below the banjo connector.

If you have the black carb do not use carb cleaner as it will remove the black paint.

The EFPC should be fitted with the Amal 416 carb
Some crap info on the main website then, which I checked before posting. On the page about the Villiers carb it definitely lists EFPC as one of the engines it is fitted to.

EFPC is definitely not listed on the Page about the Amal 416

Apologies to philb for giving duff info. But not my fault. As I said I checked with the main website to find out which carb would be fitted.

If it's an early EFPC I could be wrong I've just checked my Seagull Owners spares book that lists the EFPC with the Villiers as well.

Everything I seen post 1980ish seems to have the 416, I just assumed that everything with electronic ignition, CDI's, were Amal 400 series carbs.

Please ignore if I'm talking crap.
