this engine is 1956 / 1957, so what is the correct tank ? and what is the correct lettering for the magneto disk ...'in the world' or 'for the world' ?

the gear box is a lovely Burma bright one ..if that is correct ?...a far superior casting to the usual

I would say that photo is dead right in all aspects. The LS and the SJP overlapped for a while, and while I would expect an SJP to have the Sailorman the LS tanks kept the white bird for a while, so I suspect the company were using up stocks.

The latter end of the LS production used tanks exactly the same as the SJP one, earlier ones had the subtly different flat variation of the FV series' 'canted' oval tank.

Your example looks super, down to the locking wire.

The gearboxes do look good finished off properly instead of the later, cheaper, silver paint.

What sort of prop does this one have?

The SJP should have the sailorman, and by that date probably the 'for' rather than 'in'.

I've just noticed the " symbols at the beginning and the end of The Best Outboard motor in the World. Isn't the one at the beginning upside down?

Gosh you are quite right.. the cold war era... microdots! No wonder little paperwork survives it is at KGB's deciphering branch or worse the Seagull factory was infiltrated and wartime seagulls were bugged and sent on their mission and set to fail after a predetermined time hence the disappearance of the majority of these models.

And why are 102's not mentioned in the Clymer British Seagull service/repair handbook? The plot thickens? And why are the earlier Villiers coils breaking down... and what really is that silica insulator about. It's obvious the coil also acted as a radio beacon. And why are they the hardest coil to remove? Scoff you may but......

I suspect the " at the start may be a coded reference to a shadowy figure agent 66, while the message Best outboard motor in the world, obviously from agent 99[Get Smart!] must have a deeper meaning than we had previously suspected. As well it strikes me as no coincidence that the Suez crisis of '56 was in progress right about the time that that the message changed to Best outboard motor for the world. As we all know everything has gone downhill since that very time. Look at the slide in Seagull quality since '56!

I'm sorry but the quotes are correct, opening quotes should be like that and different to closing quotes, its only in these days of pooters n' stuff we have started to make do with one character for both, bring back Copperplate handwriting and fountain pens I say.
