Saving Old Seagulls

I am about to put my head back on my silver century plus, annealed the gasket, now was wondering if the head bolts should have a sealant since they go into the water jacket.

at a minimum I will use an marine anti seize. I do remembet my brother always using a silcone sealant on his big V8 engine rebuilds when ever the head bolts went into a water jacket and thought the same principle would apply. My lame Clymer book says nothing about this!

The Classic Seagull Book by Meyers recommends using a mixture of waterproof grease and anti-seize lubricant (FWIW, I use NAPA's copper anti-seize) on the cylinder head bolts.

I use waterproof grease on all the bolts I take out, After a rebuid if the motor is maintained properly the head bolts shouldn't have to come out again for at least 20 to 30 years
